Is there a future for the program? Another version? 5.0?
Nothing has been updated in a long time or new possibilities have been added.

My opinion: Yes, No, No, Correct.

But if you know any or all of HTML/Javascript, XML, C#, C++ or Delphi, you can customize the program to do almost anything.

We can also see that there are less and less profiles yet updated.

That's the natural progression when a program isn't maintained.

Not in the main program, no. But there is at least one developer creating and updating tools that extend the functionality of DVD Profiler. He may be naive enough to believe that his efforts help keep up the enthusiasm for DVD Profiler in some small way. Not that many people show they care all that much.

We all appreciate your efforts. But don't forget that there are other people that are doing things with little or no fanfare. There are people that are maintaining the online database and website and paying the bills for hosting, and legal expenses for running a corporation (LLC) which are far from free. There are people responding to technical issues in the forum and making contributions to the database. And other things via private conversations that are not always advertised. This is indeed a community, smaller and less vibrant than before, but I think far from "small."

My comments are meant only as an expression of an additional perspective, and just my own humble opinion.

Another reason for a reduction in the community has nothing to do with DVD Profiler and how much people care about it, is the fact that there are just fewer people that care about DVD collecting. How many times have we seen people joke about having so many DVDs and spending so much time organizing them, that they had little time to actually watch them.

Now, with so much streaming, I for one am doing a lot more watching. The DVDs I collect are more like insurance against losing my digital rights, than my main presentation medium. And when I must have the absolute highest quality, I go to my XBox and a 4K HDR Blu-Ray. But mostly now, I stream. And I think that trend is the primary reason (along with whatever has happened to Ken) that there is less activity with DVD Profiler and its forums.

That is true, but I believe the staleness of the program is a big contributor to the downturn in the community support.  As you mentioned, streaming and digital copies have become more prevalent as time goes on and people want to conveniently access their collection online.  Both of which this program is sorely lacking a good way to catalog and track.  There is at least one forum which has a collection tracking capability which may have pulled some community members away, but there is also one program, which I won't mention by name, that has a subscription based model and consistent updates with features being added that I've seen requested here many times over the years.

Yup, so true in all aspects. As one who has attempted to do some of that, I can tell you that the big boys are always moving the goalposts. Netflix used to have an API that LoadDVD used. Then they took it away. Ultraviolet went away. VUDU has no API. IMDB costs big bucks. Gracenote only caters to the big boys, and the list goes on ...

I have some code that is just a broken API (Netflix) or encryption key (Gracenote) away from allowing access to several of the popular streaming services or metadata - but they won't reveal how to get to them.

Amazon is similar. You can only use their product API now if you make enough revenue for them. Small timers like me are now shut out.
