It is a mystery that "Mystery" is not included as a default genre. My guess is that the term became too closely associated with detective novels and crime-solving. If I take a wider view and think of mystery as it applies to stories mainly involved with trying to understand what's going on it seems very descriptive of the genre. For example, I see that the genres for Close Encounters are "Drama, Adventure, Science Fiction" where "Science Fiction, Mystery, Adventure" would be more descriptive. |
