It seems there has been this gentlemen's agreement that Television would be used as a genre to flag the production as a television program. This has always been an annoyance to me but until recently I never knew how else to handle this. Now it occurs to me that perhaps a genre called Media that covered all content which featured Newspapers, Radio, Television, and even perhaps the Internet would be beneficial. |

Television is a genre for such films as "My Favorite Year" and "Network" and TV shows such as "Mary Tyler Moore" and "Dick Van Dyke". I wouldn't choose it as the primary and it seems overly restrictive. This is why I felt that including Newspapers, Radio etc. would broaden the category. |

If it's listed in the list of Official Genres in the program itself then we must consider it as an Official Genre and use them as such, regardless if we or whomever considers them not to be. Just like if we ourselves considers something or some person worthy of being credited, if it/they are not allowed by the rules than we are forbidden from contributing it/them. We have to abide by what is in the program itself and allowed by the rules regardless of our own personal opinions. So in conclusion, both Television, Classic or whatever are official genres according to the program and this site. |
