| | Posted: | | | | My JBL L8400P subwoofer has failed yet again. That's the 3rd failure in 8 years. It may be time to replace it. Any recommendations? My living room is 15' wide and 13' deep. I'd like to not spend more than $100. A lot less if possible. The other speakers are a [air of JBL L890s, an LC2 and two pairs of L820s. |

I seriously doubt that you can find a decent sub for under $100. The Klipsch should be in the $800+ range. Your current JBL must have set you back a lot more than $100? I like my cheap Proson Rumble sub, but it's made in Sweden, so it may not be available where you are. US? Even that one was about $200. And I don't think it would be a match for your old JBL anyway. Perhaps you meant under $1000? If so, the Klipsch that bbbbb mentioned is probably not a bad choice. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

| | Posted: | | | | I've heard the Polk PSW10 10" (Front Firing) is pretty decent, and runs about $100 (or less) within your stated budget. The sub on my home theater is a BIC America F12 (12" Front Firing) that I've had for 3+ years now. It was around $200, and has been excellent all around. Tight precise deep lows. All of my home theater speakers are BIC America, and I have nothing but good things to say about them. The other sub I use on my computer set-up is a Klipsch Energy Power (12" Front Firing) that I've had a little over a year now. Even though it's also a 12", the chassis is smaller than the BIC F12 and doesn't put out as much power. I spent $125 in an electronics clearance sale. | | | | Corey |

| | Posted: | | | | I am a fan of multiple subs. I have 4. 2 x Polk Audio PSW505 (12"") and 2 x Polk PSW10 - 10" siblings of the PSW505. They give lots of value for the money. I wish I had all 4 of the 12" version. More realistic deep bass. The PSW505 is well worth the extra money over the PSW10, should you decide to go with Polk.
IMHO - advantages of multiple subs:
- More evenly distributed lows. It is not true that bass cannot be localized. It depends on the size of the room, intensity and frequency of the bass, etc.
- Modern sound tracks can actually "position" thunderous sounds around you (e.g. Transformers)
- You get potentially less distortion at a given sound level by driving multiple speakers. I get get massive thunderous bass without over taxing any one sub woofer.
For comparison, my media room is about 14 x 23, so I think you could be happy with the Polk models. | | | Thanks for your support.

I have a Klipsch Reference Series R-10SW 10-Inch 300W front-firing Subwoofer and it's plenty to rattle the shelves. I also have Klipsch Reference Series rears and center, with Heco Odeon 400 towers out front. |
