I suddenly get this error every time I try and search a by title on the GENERAL tab:

Access violation at address 00404610 in module 'dvdpro.exe' Read of address EEFFFFF8

This renders my collection unsearchable and thus the database has become useless.
What could be causing this?

I know this is the go-to reply, but have you run a database repair?

Also, I'll quote mediadogg from a post a couple years back to someone who had a similar error:

I get an error "Access Violation" eveverytime I try to add a new DVD to my collection, which means I cannot add it.  I have sent this in for technical support, but everything I have been told does not fix this issue.  Has anybody else experienced this and or know how to fix this problem.

Thank you for any help on this... J-Man

You have one or more of he following problems:

Corrupt database - run database repair
Ill-behaving plugin - disable all plugins until you figure out which one is causing the problem
Security issues - make sure the User that is logged on, has valid access to DVDP data folders. Try running DVDP "As Administrator".

Check all of those items. Don't assume anything. Next time you post, if you are still having the issue, please answer Lewis_Prothero's questions, as well as give us a detailed report on what happened when you did the things I suggested.

Ok solved (I think).
Database was corrupted, restored from another backup and it works.

Thanks!

In a case like this you really don't need to restore a backup. In the startmenu where you start DVDProfiler you have also Database Repair. Run in such a case a Full Database repair and all will be fine again. I with my 7'000 films must run it about once a week. Sometimes when I close it normal, reboot and restart it it tells me it was not shutdown proper and I have to run database repair. Don't know why, happens from time to time. Also I run it to get ridoff the unused crew and actors. Thinks everybody must run this from time to time and it should always be the first thing to do when there is a problem.

Repair didn't work. I ran that even before posting, then ran it again a few times etc etc.
Good thing I had that backup....
