Until then, you could try Database Query plugin, or BulkEdit plugin QuickSearch (F9).

The iOS app has the ability to sort by purchase date.  Not exactly a search, but it's better than nothing at all.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

You can filter on purchase date (at least on iPad, I assume it's the same on iPhone). Isn't that the same as "search"?
