Syncing database to 2nd PC? |

| Posted: | | | | My main computer is where I enter all new entries and changes into DVDProfiler -- I have a laptop now (Surface) that I'd like to keep a copy of everything on, but not really make changes (more or less having a portable version of the database with me).
I figured it wouldn't be too hard to "sync" the two, but thats where I seem to be wrong (unless I'm missing something!)
First, I backed up the database on PC, copied it to Surface and imported it.. no problems.. good to go!
Problem came when trying to update it. I added 30 new titles via PC, uploaded them online.. went onto surface, hit "DVDProfiler online" and download.. it downloaded them, but no covers. To get the covers I need to go ONLINE -> REFRESH DVD -> REFRESH IMAGES for each title. There has be to be a better way, right?
I don't want to do each disc one-by-one.. and I don't want to have to sync the entire database file each time. Am I missing something?
Thanks! |

| Posted: | | | | Two ways for this:
1) On the main-PC open DVDProfiler and enable database sharing (Menu: Tools -> Options -> Sharing) You can then access your maindatabase from your Laptop with no further synchronizing required.
Downsides of this method: - Host computer must be turned on with DVDProfiler running - Only very limited changes to the profiles from the Client (Personla data only)
2) Move your main-database onto an NAS (Network Attached Storage) and point your DVDProfiler installations to the new location (Menu: File -> Open Database...). Depending on the configuration of your NAS this will allow you full access to your database worldwide.
Downside: - Only one client at a time can access the database, when trying to access it with multiple installations DVDProfiler will crash at startup. - If you don't have an NAS yet, this method is rather costly. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Is the Option "Download missing images" under the Download-radio-button checked? I thought it is exactly its purpose to prevent your problem. As workarounds, either: Online -> Refresh All Images or flag those title (press space) and Collection -> Flagged -> Refresh -> [X] Refresh Images would do the trick, depending what is faster or more convenient for you. Restore the backup on your Surface but instead of choosing Restore All Profiles which would erase the content of the current database, choose Restore Specific Profiles and Select All. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

Mithi: The option is selected, but the new titles download only with the information (cast, studio, description, etc..) resulting in no profiles downloading. This is somewhat expected for DVDs I entered myself (not in the DVDP database), but about 95% of the ones I downloaded from my online database were already in there (not custom entries) but download without images. I even tried "Refresh updated profiles" without luck.
I'm trying to avoid the Refresh All Images because I have ~4300 entries, and the surface isnt the fastest at tasks like that. I tried the Collection -> Flagged -> Refresh, but don't see an option to "Refresh Images" (using the latest version of DVDProfiler)
Can you tell me how to backup only the new titles? I've only done full backups before, so that might be the easiest way to go about it.
Unfortunately, everything BUT the profile images seem to download from the online sync.. but those covers are something i'd really like to have available.
Thanks Lewis -- I'm trying to avoid any type of database access like that, since the surface is to be used when away from home (no network/internet). No NAS either.
I had the iOS app and it had a nice "Sync" button to just transfer everything (or just changes), so I was hoping for something similar from PC -> PC |

Some "Flagged"-commands have an additional step to prevent mishaps. Quote: Can you tell me how to backup only the new titles? Simply flag them and under File -> Backup Database choose "Back up flagged entries only" instead of the preset "Full Backup" | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |
