My brother emailed me a couple old pictures of my mother from when she was really young... but they are in rough shape. Anyone here know how to clean up images want a real challenge? If so would appreciate the help!

I will be amazed if anyone can do anything with this one....

Photoshop Elements is your friend here.

I'm definitely not reall accustomed to it yet, but this is what I achieved with a few clicks (scratch-removal)

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

If you would provide me with some Hi-Res scans (1200 dpi) in an uncompressed format (bmp or RAW) I'd see what I can do (Pic 2 will be a tough one though, since there really is not much left to repair from).

Nice job Lewis_Prothero.

As an idea for the other one: suppose you carve an outline around the person and forget about trying to restore the outer, virtually blank, portion? Would that make the task sort of doable?
Thanks for your support.

Unfortunately all I have is what my brother sent me... which is exactly what I uploaded here. I can ask him if he has it any other way... but I kinda doubt it.

I'm on my way with the lady.

Just wish it would have at least been avoided to spill coffee and lipstick.

Here's what I achieved so far.
So after the scratches are removed I will really have a hard time to recover the details.
Is the 1200 dpi scan possible? It would help a lot.

Yupp,
but her right shoulder is reduced to pixel-mess and I'm not sure I can fix this, taking into consideration the little healthy material I have there.

That's an awesome job considering what you had to work with!  Very impressive!

Very nice job. I know how much work this needs.
Funny that, for once, Addicted2DVD prefers corrected data...  he generally prefers original with mistakes.
