The plugin BulkEdit  was designed for you to be able to do this. The plugin is very powerful. But with power comes responsibility. Backup your database. Work carefully - try just a few profiles first and get the hang of how to use it. Once you figure things out, you can load up the profiles you want to change and let it rip. You should do things in batches of 100-200 or less if you have a typical PC, more if you have a high speed gaming machine, less if you have a 10 year old clunker.

One recent change to BE allows changes based on rules coded in a program. If you want to try it, just describe the rule in English, and I or somebody else will provide you with the program that you can copy and paste into the tool. Otherwise, you can just use the spreadsheet operations, such as Find/Replace on a column to make such changes as "A" to "S" - very easy and super fast in BulkEdit.
