| Posted: | | | | Right now I have an ethernet port/jack in my room and my computer is hooked up to it via the cable.
What would I need to hook up my Blu-Ray player to this one connection?
And another question. Once hooked up would the router automatically recognize the player and set up the IP Address and all of that? |

Once you hook up the Blu ray player, the router will assign it an IP address. There is probably a "setup" process you will need to go through in the Blu ray menu to help you do this.
Just because it is on the network, does not necessarily mean you can access it from your PC or other devices. It all depends on the player and/or software that may or may not have accompanied it. | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | Just a little clarification: Router > Wall Jack > Switch. Blu-Ray and PC plugged into switch.
This also assumes that your ISP account uses a router and it assigns your computer an IP address such as 192.168.x.x. or 10.0.x.x. If you get any other IP address, it is likely that you don't have a router in the mix and your ISP is assigning you your IP address and they may not assign additional IP addresses. If this is the case, purchasing a router to put between the IN jack to your house and the wall jacks should resolve.
Basically, we will need to know more about your home network setup. |

Did you have to enter anything IP-wise on your PC? If not, the router of your building most likely does DHCP, meaning if a new machine enters the network it gets an IP automatically. The same would go for the BD-player. cya, Miithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

| Posted: | | | | You can also have multiple switches on a network.
I have a switch attached to the router which links to two other switches, one in my bedroom and one in the downstairs family area. The later also works as a repeater for the switch in the upstairs living room. |
