My reliable DVD Recorder for over 4 years is acting up. It won't record or finalize and I'm getting a bunch of on-screen Error codes such as E22 and something that ends in 37380.

Looks like I'll be on the market for a new DVD Recorder to dub my remaining tapes to DVD.

One thing is sure, they sure don't make electronics like they used to.

I had a friend who was getting mastering errors on music CD's.  I had her slap the computer once on the left side.  Then nothing worked.  So I had her slap the computer twice from the other side.  Everything worked.

Sounds like the lens is getting out of alignment.

There is one other very high-tech method that frequently works:
1) lift either end of your computer 2 inches off the desk;
2) let it drop back to the desk.
If done properly, you may see a puff of dust being expelled from one or all of the computer vents. This depends on the age of your computer and when or if you have ever opened it up and cleaned the dust from the inside. This method is call, ironically enough, "The 2-inch Drop".

If done properly, the computer should be powered off for the 2-inch drop.

When you say tapes do you mean VHS movies from yesteryear.. or do you mean video tapes of home movies? ...
I can't imagine transferring over exisitng movies of VHS to DVD ..  what with today's anamorphic/ 5.1 /widescreen with all menu options and hidden egg extras transfers of today from the analog only dolby surround 4:3 movies of yesteryear  ..
...and Make sure the 'tracking'  is also dead on ...

TV Series/special that I've taped over the years that aren't yet (and likely never will) on DVD.

Anyways, it's a Magnavox and I was recently at Walmart and they have a Magnavox DVD recorder for just under $100. So asap I will likely buy that one.

I've looked at that one myself.  If you get it, can you come back here and let us know how you like it?
