I would like to call on everyone's kindness and humanity is this dire hour of need. Many people in Japan have lost nearly everything, including their relatives, home, car, clothes and so on. Every little bit helps, every penny counts. Therefor, I would kindly ask anyone who has a few Euros, Dollars, Yen or other kinds of money to spare to donate for the victims.

Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper, has opened a postal account for donations which will go to the victims:
http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/T110313003616.htm
Otherwise, you can also contact your local Red Cross to donate money.

I'm starting my own fundraiser at the company I work for and will personally deliver the money where it's needed, in cooperation with the Japanese embassy.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all those that make a contribution, no matter how small or big. Every little bit helps!

Rory, from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Fortunately, everyone I know, be it 'relatives' or friends is doing well all things considered as they don't live in the affected areas. The worst that happened was the earthquakes that hit Tokyo, as her sister lives right next to it in Saitama. I'm still praying for everyone that the nuclear reactors will hold out and won't go total meltdown.

That being said, I have a warm heart for Japan and its people due in large part the time I've spent there, people I got to know and deeper appreciation I've developed for their culture and basically them as a people. So even though I don't know anyone personally in the affected areas, I still feel for them and will do my best to help them. Tomorrow meeting with one of the Executives at my company to see what kind of aid and/or fundraiser we can organize. Fingers crossed!

Taro, like you I have quite a few friends in Japan from the many times I was there during my career in the U.S. Army. Like you I developed a very warm soft spot in my heart for that wonderful country and it's people. I had the great fortune and honour to learn about it's noble history and culture, both from a military stand point and a civilian prespective. Most of the friends I made are in the southern part of the Home Islands. I heard from one of them yesterday and they are as well as can be expected.

I just got news from the Japanese embassy and other Japanese governmental organizations that currently the best way to donate for foreign nationals, is to use the Red Cross.

Also good news from my office. We're going full speed ahead! A general call for donations to all 1.300 employees has been approved, and the company itself will also donate money from our disaster fund. Moreover, since we are an electric company, I'm given the green light to offer technical advice and assistance by our engineers and specialists.

I'll be very busy this week and next week most likely, so no time to contribute or participate a lot. I'm working day & night now to get this thing going.

Thanks to all who have contributed; helped or prayed for the victims
