Got myself a Blue-Ray player for Christmas.

I got an LG BD-530.

Right now I am running it with component cables. I have an HDMI cable on order and it should be here this week. I am so looking forward to watching some movies in 1080p. I have a 25 foot run to make to connect this player to the TV.

I picked up 3 Blue-Ray movies to start me out ... Ghostrider, Bad Boys & Black Hawk Down.

It is a Network Blue-Ray Disc Player. Capable of full 1080p HD, internet capable.

Plays the following: Blu-ray™ Disc, BD-R/RE, DVD, DVD±R/RW, Audio CD, CD-R/RW, MPEG4 AVC, HP@L4.1, MPEG2, HP@ML, SMPTE VC1, AP@L3, MPEG2, HP@ML, AVCHD, DivX/DivX HD.

The only thing I wish it was is wireless ... which it is not. I do not know how I will ever run an Ethernet cable up from downstairs to take advantage of the internet capabilities.

You can read all about it  HERE

what happens if you burn the drivers to a cd-r and then insert the disc in the tray??

I am not sure what you are talking about here ... are you refering to something about wireless?

I think he's referring to the inevitable firmware updates your player will need in order to play those problem discs of the future.

I was just suggesting that you don't  have to go thru the Internet directly but you can burn the drivers to a disc .. ( cd-r) should do rather than a dvd-r )..from the internet .,,  and the inserted disc should trigger your player to inspect and install the drivers you find on the net ..

another option is to buy / borrow or build your own  25 FOOT  cat 5 wire ....and run that up the hallway..

I am not so much worried about updates ... just thought it might be nice to surf the internet using this from time to time.
As far as the cable ... I would need way more then 25 feet ... I live in a townhouse. My setup is on the second floor and all the computer stuff in on the first. I would need about 100 yards to reach it.

I just Googled those and that seems like what I could use ... now ... if I can only figure it out (installation that is).

I am running a Belkin N router. Just wondering what I would have to hook to the player to converse with the bridge.

If your gear is on the floor above can you use the inside of the wall cavity and the cable up??

It would be really hard to try to get a wire up through the wall. I think the bridge is the way to go. I am going to research that a little bit more.

Thanks for your help here though ...

Just bought a Blu-Ray player too, my first and only movie so far is Black Death

The only thing I wish was that it was region free.

That's the only thing that's keeping me from going blu. Well, that and the fact that I have to buy a new TV and amp... Last time I checked, money still didn't grow on trees...

@marcelb7:
Some dealers are selling multiregion and multizone players, e.g. Stegen.
Also check out this topic on the Dutch DVD Forum.

You have to pay attention though, as in some cases players are made multiregion for DVD only, but not multizone for Blu-ray. On the other hand, the number of zone-coded Blu-ray discs is fairly limited (mainly Fox releases) - more info here.

I use a HD ready projector, and to avoid the need for an A/V amp, i just bought a cheap HDMI hub and use optical/coaxial cables for the sound

Sure, I fully understand where you're coming from. It's just that you said the region issue was the main obstacle for you - and I thought I'd show it can be overcome.

Owning a modded Oppo which can play just about anything on a DVD-size disc myself, I can understand perfectly why the region/zone issue would be important to you. Been there, done that, read the book, seen the movie.
