My younger sister bought a new laptop, TV and HDMI cable.

When she attaches the laptop to the TV, after a while the colors turn into negative colors. When you unplug and replug the cable, the image is good again for a while. Anybody know whats causing it, and how to fix it?

Laptop: Compaq CQ62
TV: Sony KDL-40BX400, if i remember right
HDMI cable: no brand, cheapest available

I get that same result when I 'cross bred'  the wires from 3 wired component plugs .. so maybe the HDMI plug is defective.. Do you have another HDMI wire nearby to experiment a switch??

I should be able to sort another cable, but i doubt its the cable. As it only occurs after about 5 minutes. It it were the cable, id assume it would happen all the time?

Tests to do:
Exchange cable and input wires ,, if the same use coaxial cable and wait to see...  if happens for types of cable input including RCA jacks.. it may very well be the TV set itself..

Its a cheap laptop, so it only has the hdmi output.

We managed to get it working with dual screen, so that the TV can use it native resolution. Before it was as clone screen so it sent the image in the laptops resolution.
