I was wondering if anyone knew if it's possible to add a subtitle stream while watching a blu-ray. My wife is Japanese and it's very straining for her to listen to English. Even when turning on English subs, she has a hard time following everything that's going on.

We've bought the first 5 Harry Potter movies on Blu-ray which she loved and all contain Japanese subtitles. To our great regret, we noticed the 6th one doesn't have Japanese subtitles. I could however obtain Japanese subtitles in .srt format from a Japanese friend of ours.

Long story short: is there a way to display .srt subtitles on a blu-ray using a PS3 (slim)?

I'm thinking it should be possible to rip the video/audio stream from the BD to a .m2ts file using Slysoft's AnyDVD HD and using remuxer hardcode the subtitles to that .m2ts file. Then I'll need to copy that file (which exceeds 4GB of course) using a mediaserver directly to the PS3's HDD and play it from there.

Would that work and guarantee no loss in video and audio quality?

It should work.. As far as I know.. But honestly, I've never tried it before, since I never use subs.. But the way you describe it seems to be the only feasible solution

I once read/heard a rumour that with BD-Live it would be possible to stream subtitles in any language, but I haven't seen any movies with that possibillity yet. I can't remember if it was just with BD-Live or any player that have an internetconnection. But this feature would certainly by neat for the people that wants/need subtitles.

In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.
