| Posted: | | | | Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to. I have searched the forums a few times and didn't come across an answer.
A LOT of my DVD Collection was added a long time before DVD Profiler added the concept of Child Profiles. All my new Boxed Sets of Trilogies etc... have a Parent with with Child Profiles for Each Movie. However I can't seem to figure out how to Force the Older Sets to be Updated in my Database to Parent/Child formated Profiles.
ie. I have Nightmare on Elm Street Box. How do I get it to Create child Profiles for the 7 Individual Movies like all my more recently added ones.
I am trying to avoid Deleting all these titles and re-adding them and then having to re-number my Whole Collection to put them back in the Order I had them in.
Please tell me there is a simple way. |

| Posted: | | | | There is a plugin, BulkEdit, that has a feature that will create child profiles from the disc IDs of the included discs. You have the option of deleting the discs from the original parent afterwards. Not sure if that is exactly what you want. If you decide to use it, you will need Net 2.0 available on your system. The menu is found under Collection\Flagged. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

Please tell me there is a simple way. Simplest way ,, is to (temporarily) change your 'location' for the currently owned box set to another locality (USA to Canada/ Canada to USA), Then go back to Add DVD and download the same box set same UPC but with the locality you now don't have, . It will now download all your sets along with the children ., then using information you have with the other location, 'reedit' the same date you bought, same collection number, price you paid, any notes etc over to the sets you want to keep, then remove ( delete ) the other locality you temporarily put in place . | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | wouldn't selecting the profile and pressing ctrl + F12 (check for child profiles, also available from the online->Refresh DVD from Invelos->Check for child profiles) be easier than temporarily changing locality.
just because the profile was created before the concept of child profiles doesn't mean they weren't added and updated to the profile.
if they don't exist (won't be found by the method i described above, or what widescreed described) then your other options are a) what mediadogg said using the plugin or b) do it how it was done before automatic downloading of child profiles which is.
download the individual movie profiles by a) adding by title b) adding by inserted disc (requires putting the disc in the drive) c) add by upc if the individual movies have their own case and UPC
then edit the box set profile, go to the box set tab and add the individual movies as children. click OK and your done.
just one other note, if the movies don't have their own UPC the most accurate way to get the correct profile is by using option b. If it doesn't exist you can always clone a single release of the same movie (even from a different locality) and make any necessary changes. someone has a nice instruction set on cloning a profile in their sig though I forget who.
which brings me to one final point. The search for the forum isn't the best so what most long time users do is use google and add 'site:invelos.com' (without the ') to their search term and it will search just this site. should be able to find info on cloning a profile using that method.

| Posted: | | | | Easiest way I did it when check for child profiles became available:
Select all profiles: CTRL A Choose menu: Collection -> Flagged -> Check for child profiles
If I remember correctly this will run through your whole collection, identify all available childs and present them in a dialog box. In that dialog box you can select/deselect the found ones. So, deselect the ones you already have. Then confirm the downloads and I suggest check your collection on the entries received: still inadvertent double entries or whatever.
I STRONGLY suggest to make a full back-up first to make sure you can restore from possible errors in the above procedure. | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | I had the same question about adding child profiles to existing entries.
I tried the going under "flagged > check for child profiles" and "online > refresh dvd from invelos > check child profiles" but both options are grayed out. Why isn't that feature available to me? I have the unlimited registration version if that makes a difference. |

| Posted: | | | | Did you flag something first? I just tried it in profiler, and without a flagged profile, it's greyed out, but when you flag something, it becomes usable. | | | Lori |

Yeah, I tried flagging the whole collection, a few titles, and just a single entry. Still wasn't working. Tried on my laptop as well without success. |

| Posted: | | | | keesh, Can't replicate your PC's behaviour. The "online > refresh dvd from invelos > check child profiles" should work even if nothing is flagged but one profile is clicked in the list. Maybe it is related to the internet connection. Does the program download updated profiles the normal way? Can you access the websites in the menu (Online -> bottom of the list entries...)? Under which condition both options remain greyed out I do not know... | | | Eric

It does not seem to work on the 'All' Tab, use the individual 'Owner', 'Ordered' and 'Wishlist' tabs and Select All and Check for child profiles should work there.

| Posted: | | | | good catch dbisping. I personally don't download child profiles for movies in my wishlist (wait till I own them) because I don't feel it's necessary. Plus, since I give out my wishlist for suggestions on what to buy me for holidays/birthday I don't want someone buying the single release of something available in a box set that I want the whole saga of (i prefer the box set when possible) because they a) didn't realize there was a box or b) the box was too expensive (rather get something else then). remember online listing doesn't show the parent/child relationship
but all that is kind of an aside, I did want to emphasize that if the online data doesn't contain the box set info then it won't find any child profiles during the check even if appropriate profiles exist separately.

Dave... That was the answer! I didn't check the other tabs. When I first started inputting my collection last weekend, I was not adding the individual discs for television series. Later, I realized the profile of the individual discs have a brief summary of each episode, so it makes it easier if I want to look up a particular episode but don't remember the name. However, the downside is that they get counted as part of the Total DVD count so I have to tag each disc so it doesn't show up in reports. Cool stuff. The more I use this program, the more amazed I am with the rich feature set. One suggestion though would be to have a checkbox in each title's profile under "Personal Information" to select whether to not include the DVD in the total title count. Then it would be easy to see how many titles one has along with how many total discs without using tags. |

I can't find it now but there was just a recent post (and a few not as recent) about this Total DVD Count. It should probably be called Total Profile Count because it doesn't actually count DVDs but rather counts profiles. (can't remember if you were involved in this thread) but basically people tend to handle this in 1 of 2 ways 1) only assign collection numbers to items they want to count (be it items purchased or titles. titles being movies in the box set and each tv series as 1 (generally)). This way the highest collection number is your DVD count 2) use tags. and tag the items you want to count (or that you don't want to count) and then you can filter them out. This is how I do it and probably will work better with reports since you can run reports on filtered items only. My tag system (simplified explanation) marks stuff as a box set and then I have sub tags for movie box set and tv box set. these both have a box sub tag and then a disc/movie sub tag. this way I can filter out boxes for movie sets and discs for tv sets. I then saved the filter set so I can easily view my actually movie\title count. -Agrare |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks Agrare. Good idea about using the collection numbers. I haven't started using the numbers yet because I don't know how I'm going to catalog my collection. I thought I had about 1500 titles, but now I'm realizing I'm probably around 2400. Total DVD count must be around 4000. I'm first inputting all the info into DVD Profiler, and then I'll start using filters and/or reports to see how I want to arrange everything.
The tags are super useful, and I'm using a similar system to yours. However, I did not know you can save the filter set, so I'll look into that.
I've only been using the software for a week, but I absolutely love it. If there are features lacking, in all probability somebody created a plugin. Great stuff. I'm going to buy DVD Profiler for my cousins as well! |

Dave... Good post, dbisping. It took me the longest time to realize this was what was happening. Unlike Agrare, I like to have all child profiles for both my owned and wishlist items -- so I often use the ALL tab. I didn't think to mention it in this thread, however, because I'd forgotten it works that way. I don't know why this won't work on the ALL tab -- seems to me like it should. If people don't want children for their wishlist items, they wouldn't have to use the ALL tab. It would just be more convenient for those of us who DO. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges?
