Hi all

How come when I have a boxset with child profiles, that it counts both parent and child profiles in the total count.

eg Robocop Boxset (Parent) and Robocop 1,2&3 as child profiles. Now this is 3 DVDs but it counts as 4 in the total count.

Is there a way to reset this as it is saying that i have more DVDs than i actual have?

Thx

Thats the problem, its counting a 3 disc boxset as 4 discs, when in fact it is only 3 discs.

There's no way around this currently.

You could use the collection number to only count those items you're interested in.  Like just assigning a number to the parent or just the children and not the other way around.

You could use tags to tag just those items you're interested in counting.

You could use something like Database Query which will attempt to count the number of discs in your collection.

There are workarounds, but the best way to do it depends on what exactly it is you're trying to count and how you decide to count them.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

But it's 4 profiles. As far as the program is concerned it is 4 separate entities in the database so it tells you that. You can assign numbers to them however you want to get your actual disc count. Many of us number just the movies in a case like yours.

Wait till you get into the TV sets  "1" TV set could have 5, 6 or more profiles in it. Take a look at my collection, soprt it by collection number and see how many are not numbered. I have around 1500 TV shows or Movies but I think I have close to 2500 profiles.

Bottom line, the program tells you haw many profiles you have in your database and nothing more. It is up to you to number them how you want if you are interested in how many "movies" (or TV shows) you actually have.

Welcome to the forum BTW

EDIT: Mr."I like IMDB" types faster than I do.

Rick is correct once you understand that the program is using a misnomer, it counts PROFILES. Now there are numerous ways around this, depending upon your particular objectives. For example, I am less interested in discs and more interested in TITLES. I let the program handle my numbering, whenever I move this may change but this is TODAY  , So what I do is the following. For Movie Boxsets, the Boxset is not a Title and thus does not get a Collection Number, the Contents of said Boxset do get a Collection (the only fly in this, is mutliple feature discs, but it's close enough for my pruposes. For televsion I do it the exact opposite manner, I consider the Parent the Title and thus it get the Collection Number, the contents get NOTHING. So, at the current time my collection contains 4646 Profiles owned and somehwere in the vicinity of 3000 titles (I haven't looked lately).

Let's say Ken wanted to count Discs, which would probably be a pretty difficult proposition, given the variables. What is a DISC, is it each and every shiny little coaster, or is it only the movies (not including BONUS discs or Features Discs. Some users might want it one way and some might want something else, so it gets complicated quickly.

To make things more complicated yet, they aren't complicated enough already, let's consider the user who might use his numbering system to track his inventory locations. Let's say something like this for example.

Fixture #1
Shelf #2
Position #18

This could be collection number 1218, now if he want to count discs or even Profiles....well I think you see where this can go.

OK What I've done now is in the Child Profile of a boxset in Edit mode/Personal info I've ticked the box 'None' next to Collection Number. I've then reassigned Collection Numbers but the total count of DVDs is still the same.

In season dvds where there are say 5 discs, I just want to count this as 1 entry, but in boxsets of say trilogies where there are three diiferent movies in one case, I want this counted as 3 entries.

Nothing you do is going to change the Total DVDs count. It is counting PROFILES not DVDs or titles  or anything else. It will ALWAYS give you a count of PROFILES.

The highest reassigned Collection Number will give you the total count of what you want. Or am I missing something?

That will,, deejay. BUT some users , it won't help, because they use their numbering for other purpose, Genre assignment, or location management, etc. But just straight numbering can give you a count, depending on the count that you want. Fon example, I count titles, what's a Title, well my definition is a Movie Boxset is NOT a title, the Movies themselves ARE, OTOH a TV Season Boxset IS a Title, while the individual episodic discs are NOT.

You're right Skip... it all depends on how you do the numbering. I personally like to number the items I bought... so no child profiles (movie or TV Series) gets numbers in my collection.

You're right. I was looking at the amount on the top of my DVD list window, not the actual highest reassigned Collection number.

Yeah that term needs to be changed to Total Profiles instead of Total DVDs. I believe that was just something that was never changed once we got the ability to have boxsets broken up.

Most of us just automatically realizes that it means total profiles despite what it says... so never really been a high priority to us I don't think.

Maybe it's time to change wording for us mere mortals

That's not the only term that needs changing. The same goes for Production Year, which actually represents the year of original release (which does not always coïncide with the production year).
