| Posted: | | | | So, this isn't about the links we're adding, but about the links between "same" profiles.
I noticed that there was an IMDB link in "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc", which pointed to the IMDB entry for the TV Mini-series "Joan of Arc". So I gave it a red minus, and added the correct link to "The Messenger". The next day, I looked at the list, and noticed a -1 for "Joan of Arc", which I don't actually have. Closer inspection lead me to the conclusion that by selecting "Profiles with this title" when I added my link, the link was being put on a different movie.
I solved my problem by restricting the link to "this profile only", but I wasn't certain if Ken & Gerri (have you ever considered doing an ice-cream profiler? ba-dum-bum) wanted to know about these edge cases, where similar names although different movies, are being made "equal" ... (Apparently the other person came to the same conclusion, as their link is no longer in the messenger profile. So all's well in joan-of-arc land) | | | -fred |

| Posted: | | | | Based on the way Ken described the linking working, when you attach a link by title it is actually title (or original title if it has one)/production year so unless the two different movies share the same title and production year it wouldn't connect to the other profile. Looking at the IMDB entry for 'The Messanger' it has an aka 'Joan of Arc'. and lists that as Australia, Philippines (English title), UK. Since both the movie and the mini series were produced in 1999 (and i would guess the profile for the move was probably from one of those countries and either a) has 'Joan of Arc' as the title and no original title or b) has 'The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc' as the title and 'Joan of Arc' as the original title) it would have connected to that profile.
I think in this case the +/- work the way they should to handle situations like this. From the link feedback page you can just click the 'trash' icon to remove the link from the profile it got a negative on but leave it on the rest (at least thats how I understand Ken's comments).

Ah, I had missed that subtlety. In that case I did it incorrectly, in that I removed the link via the page I had inserted it on, and then added the same link on that page, but this profile only. Hmmm. If I can only remove the link for a single profile from the feedback page, then how can I try again without getting someone to "-" me again ... | | | -fred |

| Posted: | | | | You can't remove it from a profile unless you have that profile in your collection. The negative on the vote does not affect your reputation score, it's just someone voting against the link. (so they aren't "-" you, they are "-" the link)
Sometimes people will vote negative on a link even though it is a valid link but it doesn't fit their personal preference. If however, in a case like you had, it is a legit negative, you can just go ahead and remove it from that page.
I believe Ken & Gerri also monitor the link feedback and can remove invalid/wrong links themselves.
So basically I wouldn't worry about it, if you get a negative on a link and you see that link doesn't belong on that profile just remove it, if you think its valid just leave it be.

| Posted: | | | | if you haven't already, read the link feedback thread from Ken. That's where he mentions what I posted above -Agrare |

So all's well in joan-of-arc land) I took a quick look at the "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc" profile you've mentioned and there are actually four bad links still in it. The Rotten Tomatoes, All Movie, Wikipedia and Yahoo Movies links all incorrectly point to the other "Joan of Arc" miniseries. So there is apparently some weird profile linking happening with these two films... | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

(I understand about the difference with reputation, i'm interested in getting the data clean, actually) Funny you should mention that. The feedback page showed a -1 on a profile that is not in my collection (the TV-joan of Arc), with a link. I clicked the link and it took me basically to the links page without +/- buttons and without a bin for the link I had apparently created. I couldn't delete it there, but it showed me the cover and all. I should have paid more attention to the link before I did the delete ... | | | -fred |

So there is apparently some weird profile linking happening with these two films... I should have checked the other links. thanks for catching this. I think Agrare has it correct and that it has something to do with the Original Title of one of the two films. Quickly checking, I see that "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc" has an original title of "Joan of Arc", and they both have the same production year (1999). Likely this means that links submitted for these profiles should be restricted to "This profile only" because for these two different profiles (ProductionYear_1 == ProductionYear_2 && OriginalTitle_1 == OriginalTitle_2). Dis-ambiguating them would require some form of look-aside that might be quite costly on Ken's servers ... | | | -fred |
