| Posted: | | | | So I turned on the Blu-Ray, had dinner, then it finally loaded. I inserted Ratatuille, had desert, then the movie started. Half way throught the movie, I was explaining to my wife why it was not a waste to spend $300 on a dvd player then another $30 on a kids movie, when the movie went and froze on me. The picture was frozen, but the timer on the blu-ray display kept counting, the sound was gone also. I pressed, stop, pause, forward, next and nothing. It never came back, I had to turn off the player, I didnt try to turn it back on because I have to work in 8 hrs and didnt want to be late. Has this happened, to others? One other question, why is it that Blu-Rays dont remember were you were on a movie, if I have to turn off my player for what ever reason, when i start the player again it starts from the beginning, unlike my older dvd player that remembered were I was in the movie and jumped right to it. |

| Posted: | | | | well firstly... if you were not aware of the load times in this technology, you should have been before you bought it... not sure how that comes off... but back to the questions at hand...
what blu-ray player do you have? have you updated it to the latest firmware? did your Ratatuille disc have any defects or scratches? are you using an hdmi connection?
as far as remembering where you are, if indeed your player did "crash" i doubt that would have been saved anyhow, in addition, that is a feature that is added by the manufacturer at their leisure, im pretty sure my player has it... | | | -JoN | | | Last edited: by ruineddaydreams |

| Posted: | | | | I have a brand new Sony BDP-S300 with a Monster Cable HDMI, I have done what I think is the latest firmware. The ratatuille disk is also brand new. My old sony dvd player used to remember were I was on the dvd player and by the way this one isnt remembering were I was even when I just turn it off, not only when It froze. |

| Posted: | | | | have you now re-tried this and seen if it can be reproduced either at the same point in the film or at least on the same disc?
do you know what version your firmware is?
How to Check Current Firmware Version
1. Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the BDP-S300 player is connected. 2. Power on the BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc™ player. 3. If the player starts to play a disc, press the "STOP" button and wait until the blue Sony Blu-ray Disc screen is displayed on the television before proceeding. 4. On the remote control (RMT-B101A), press the SYSTEM MENU button. 5. At the "System Menu" screen, use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "Setup" and then press the ENTER button. 6. At the "Setup" screen, use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "Video Setup" and then press the ENTER button. 7. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "TV Type" and then press the ENTER button. 8. On the remote control, press "BLUE" button.
the latest version is 3.30 | | | -JoN | | | Last edited: by ruineddaydreams |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the info, I do have the most current firmware. I uploaded it on the first day I got the blu-ray. It wasnt fun, and took about 15 minutes, but I have talked to others who had a really hard time updating the firmware. Thanks again for the info. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting davidperez: Quote: with a Monster Cable HDMI You do know you can get HDMI cables from www.monoprice.com for about $4 don't you? They're very nice quality and work just fine. I don't know what you paid for your Monster cable, but from what I've seen, I'd bet it was a lot more than $4. Sorry I can't help with the real problem. But hey, maybe it's not too late to save a bunch of money. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | I now know the errors of my way. I learned about 2 years ago that the name Monster Cable doesnt necessarily mean better. I spent alot of money, a few years ago buying Monster everything, including banana clip ends for the speaker wires. Then one day I lost my $70 component cable while moving homes and was forced to use the component cables that were sent with the cable box, and to this day I have not noticed a difference. So I tried it with RCA's, speaker wires, optical wiires and have not seen a difference that "Me" a non professional can tell. So now if I need a new wire, I dont buy the really cheapos from Radio Shack but I also dont buy the Mosnter Cables, there are other brands like AR at Best Buy and other places that are a 1/3 of the price. Thanks for the info. |

| Posted: | | | | By the way I just checked out that website. WOW!!! I could have saved enough money to buy the Blu-Ray a year ago, when I wired my whole house for Cat5e cable. Damn Home Depot....I will check this place out when I decide to wire the house for Audio. That is the next project. Im sure this one will cause a divorce. |

| Posted: | | | | As far as the resume, any High Def disc authored in advanced mode can NOT utilize the resume. This goes for both HD DVD and Blu-ray. I know that HD DVD has a bookmark feature and I'm pretty sure Blu-ray does to (so far I only have 1 Blu-ray disc).
This would be the only way to pick up where you left off.
Advanced mode enables some special features, so 99% of HD media is this way....there are a few exceptions on some of the first release High Def releases. | | | Last edited: by sivartk |

Mainly because they're digital and the cable either works or it doesn't. There's no inbetween. So it seemed like a safe way to try them out. What I can tell you is that I was extremely impressed with the cable I got. Very heavy duty, gold plated, extremely sturdy. It's probably double the thickness of the cables that came with my HD DVD payer and DVR. And it was $3 and change. Less than $6 shipped for a 6' cable. And they're extremely well regarded on other home theater type sites. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Good to know about the HDMI switch, I might be needing one soon here. Which model did you get? Is it remote controllable? If it is, do you think it could be controlled by a Logitech Harmony 880? |

| Posted: | | | | I got this oneit is excellent, and not only do i use a harmony remote to control it, but the model # on it was already in logitech's database so i didn't even have to learn the commands... | | | -JoN |

Because my HDTV only has one HDMI port, I too, had to get a 4-port switch. Got one from Newegg.com about the size of a thick paperback book with a credit card size remote. It handles full HD up to 5.1 DTS (which is all my receiver can do) and works like a champ. I also got HDMI cables from Newegg that were less than $12 for a six footer. Monster Cable is one of the biggest scams in history far as I'm concerned! [Note: the switch was from GWC. Model VS4040, NewEgg part # 82-820-001, for $72.99. The HDMI cable from Link Depot, model LD-HDMI6HDMI, NewEgg part # 12-189-125, for $8.99. Been running both for several months with no problems. | | | John
