At present we have to contribute the profile as PAL or NTSC.

If it's a Bluray or HD DVD we should have the option for 720p, 1080i, 1080p etc instead.

I'm not really familiar with how it all works with HD. Am I to understand that PAL speedup is out of the picture?

Not quite. High Def can have 24p, 25p/i, 29,976p/i, 50p/i, ~60p/i
