I will be updating to a receiver with HDMI ability and Onkyo's new TX-SR605 and 705 look very impressive. I have an older Yamaha RX-V1400 that is fine but won't be sufficient for my purposes when I upgrade to a hidef flat screen in the near future.

Has anyone heard any advance word? Are either of these available now and has anyone purchased one?  Looking for a little info if possible.

I just got a TX-SR604 a couple weeks ago and love it.  It isn't an HDMI 1.3 model like the ones you posted and doesn't decode the advanced audio formats found on HD discs today (assuming you're even interested in HD at this point), but all that is just a load of marketing crap anyway.  Those fancy features don't really buy you anything since you can't actually use them with today's hardware.  And it's debatable if you'll ever be able to use them with HD DVD and/or Blu-ray.  And even if you think it's worth it, just in case, there's not really any advantage to the receiver doing the decoding over the receiver.

Still, they're still great receivers from what I've heard and I certainly love mine.  I was looking at this year's models myself and would have gladly gone that route despite the marketing nonsense.  But I happened to find an amazing deal (604 for $255), so I passed.

Anyway, if you're looking for TV and receiver advice, I think you'd have much better luck visiting www.avsforum.com.  As an example, they have an owners thread for my model of TV (Samsung HL-S) with 600 pages and 18,000+ posts.  I know you'll be able to find much more useful information there then you ever will here.  Odds are with a few minutes of looking, you'll find tons of people who own the exact equipment you're interested in and can get all your questions answered.
