| Posted: | | | | I have trouble with dating some documentary from WWI and WWII
The actual filming is done in 1914 or 1941 and so on...
Is it normal to set the date for this kind of DVD to the production year of the actual documentary? or may it be set to the actual year the fimlimg took place?
In many cases it is a full feature that was realesed in theaters during the war, in that case I have set the year to that particular year as best as I can... But often they only use bits of material from diferent productions over the war, and the date is more difficult to set. Some of the Boxes to be bought is a mix of these, full features released during war and other material from diferent sources.

| Posted: | | | | I'd say that when the documentary was released that is the year it should be.'
i.e Woodstock filmed August 1969..,, then for the next 5 months or so it was edited and formed into a documentary and was released in 1970 .. You would never take the year it was filmed in., only the year it was released to the theatres or other media outlet. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. I did take a search for the topic... should I go for intervocatives forum? It wouldn't help. The search feature leaves a lot to be desired. comments any... Be careful dating these. WWII in particular, the movie industry was running full tilt making propaganda films (documentaries) for both the troops and the folks at home, and they were shown in theaters between the cartoons and the feature film, and to the troops in whatever makeshift setup they had. It would not be unusual for the filming and the release date to be in the same year, at least for WWII. | | | John
