| Posted: | | | | We should specifically have to choose whether a disc is SL or DL and not have a default. It seems as of late that people don't realize that if they don't check the DL box the default info that gets sent to the main DB will be SL. It doesn't force them to check. They think if they don't check the box then all they are entering are disc ids, when in fact they are entering wrong information. |

That's a good idea, because I have to admit until I read this topic it just never occurred to me that it defaults to single-layer if you don't specifically set it as dual-layer. |

| Posted: | | | | It would help if Profiler read layer data when you scan for the Disc ID. Layer data is frequently not specified and it's often hard to dredge up whether it's SL or DL. If I have the disc in front of me, I can use DVDInfoPro to tell me which it is. But when I'm in the database looking to vote on contributions and I don't have my copy of the DVD handy, I cannot verify whether the layer data are correct or not. There are other ways to tell if a disc is DL (like if it has 2 sets of numbers in the center ring - not having any DVD here, it's difficult for me to describe what I'm talking about) but that's a pain to discover. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? Also agree on the NTSC thing, I've never understood why it defaults to NTSC when I set my region to 2 and default currency to GBP. But no default would be preferable as I import a lot of R1 titles. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

Agreed Even though I was aware that it defaulted to SL (and NTSC) because of the way it is presently set if I could not verify the layers then I didn't change it so potentially entered misleading data when adding a Disc ID (my work PC can check Disc ID but locks out any programs trying to read info about the layers as it considers that outside of my permissions). Whilst I would occasionally change it to DL if the film was one I knew was too long for an SL disc (or had a one hour doco as well as the film) it's far from 100% satisfactory! Of, and BTW, they print that "there may be a slight pause on layer change" warning on the back of DVDs that are single layer sometimes so that's no indication! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |
