Well, some might say that this is a very bad idea but I got a huge load of reasons!

99 % of so called "updates" I get are simply wrong
- Cast (or sometimes crew) with the correct BY is "updated" with the wrong BY
- Worst of all is the "Original Title" of TV-Series. This always is the title of the series, but most of the updates have an OT like "Season XX: Disc YY".
- Overviews with 1:1 of the covertext are updated with a several misspellings, deleted formats or even complete lines

If I don't do regulary updates, profiler reminds me that I haven't done them for several days. But whenever I do them and check what comes in, I have to block between 99 and 100 % of the so called "updates" as they are definitely wrong!

Especially as I am cleaning up my whole database as much as possible it is horrible to get those "improvements" of profiles which ruin what I allready had corrected.

And as it is a lot of work to check every single box to lock an update, I would like to know if I can totally deactive them without being reminded to do them?

That's the danger with a user-contributed database.

The obvious solution is to take a more active part and vote accordingly for all updates.  That way you can make sure the updates are correct.

Have you ever tried "Online>Clear Pending Downloads"?

@AlunH: As I am restricted from contributing because anyone said so (without any prove) that I contributed imdb-data (altough I spent hundreds of hours typing complete series like Gunsmoke and more than 1000 episodes of german series "Lindenstraße") I am restricted from voting also.

@mediadogg: "Clear Pending Downloads" is not active so I guess that no downloads ARE pending. But that wouldn't change anything: As long as the updates deliver wrong data, I only can block them. If I don't do updates long enough, profiler tells me "you haven't done for XXX days". So I would like to know if there is a chance to completely deactivate them.

As I did countless corrections (merged several versions of several names to their common names), the differences between my database and the server data grow every day. So I don't want to change back that corrections and especially not all the wrong stuff (original title etc.) mentioned in the initial post.

If you are locking changed sections (an option on the edit screen, so can be automatic) and have set "ignore changes in locked sections" on the update screen, then processing the updates will not overwrite your changes (I believe that selecting the OK button at the bottom will cause all updates to be processed). Downloading updates also updates the online profile list so any newly added profiles are available, so unless you never use an existing profile as a basis you probably want this.

"Clear pending downloads" only shows if you have attempted a download (maybe by previewing changes) of a profile which is not in the online database.

CTRL-A -> Collection -> Flagged -> Edit Locks -> All

The updates can come in as many as they want

There is a registry hack to completely deactivate the reminder:

I deleted LastPromptedRefresh key, and then DVDProfiler opened normally, and this key was automatically restored.

Then, I deleted LastRefreshedProfiles key. DVDProfiler opened normally, without window, and without restoring this key. Perhaps the solution ? I shall wait for sometimes to see if the window comes back...
