I know that there is one year without update.
I don't know how does Ken to continue his business with a lifetime buy license. Are enough new users every month to pay the servers disks for the growing DVD/bluray database, the upload and download of users' collection, and the forums traffic.
Maybe should he work on a new version 4.0 that we would buy again, of pay a small annual fee. It's not that I want to spend my money, but if the company is down (with the servers), I think I'll cry next time I'd like to add a new profile in my collection. Hi Olivier, I guess I would feel quite same as you when one day the worst case scenario becomes reality and DVD-Profiler/Invelos would go down. It would be really bad for all the hours (?) we all spent on maintaining this DB. But as I said, in my first despair (not knowing about your App/PlugIn yet), I first searched for alternatives and I think I have found a good one (nevertheless I stay loyal to DVD-Profiler, at least for the time being or as long as it is up). The alternative I found is called "Movie Collector", you can find it here: http://www.collectorz.com/ http://www.collectorz.com/movie/ It looks very much like DVD-Profiler, they offer versions for Windows and Mac, and they offer Mobile versions for iPhone, iPad, iPad Touch AND Android! http://www.collectorz.com/movie/clz-movies.php http://www.collectorz.com/movie/clz-movies-android.php The whole thing looks a bit like a clone of DVD-Profiler to me, especially the screenshots of the Android Mobile version seems like somebody reinvented the wheel! They even offer hardware (handheld scanners) to read the barcodes of DVD's/BD's! AND: there is an "Import from DVD-Profiler"-function built into the programme, but when I tried that on the free Trial version, it did not work (but it can be that I did something wrong). However, my request for support was at least answered by E-Mail within 12 hours or so (on a Saturday!)! So maybe one day we all will have to remember the "Movie Collector"!? But I hope not... Have you tried Movie Collector. On paper it looks good, but in use it really is not that good. Its clunky and it seems they want to charge you for every extra feature. The import function only half does the job as well and there are so many box covers for the same DVD/Blu-ray that it’s a nightmare to convert the database. The thing about DVD Profiler is basically it is now really community driven. Without people on these forums keeping control and uploading and agreeing on artwork etc. it would not be as great as it is. The reason it’s so good is that it is driven by people who are enthusiastic about the product and their collections so there is a better understanding of what is required. Even I who do not really get involved that much have uploaded artwork and requested changes to DVD's. Up till now the nearest I have come to a replacement on my mobile was My Movies Pro. This also will convert from DVD Profiler and was not a problem http://www.mymovies.dk/products/my-movies-for-android.aspx You can even use it to scan in films from your mobile, in the app not a bolt on charged for extra, like Movie Collector is. Now Olivier has created this app even My Movies is going to be wiped from my phone. I too purchased the DVD Profiler and also have the windows mobile app, I would still gladly donate to the development of Olivier's version of this app through money or time helping test it as its far cheaper than having to side shift all my data to a new app just so I can get it on my mobile. Olivier, maybe you should have a word with Invelos (Ken), I think through lack of any other android product coming out of Invelos, you should look to be making the official app. Even if they split profits with you. They would get more sales as they must be losing sales from no official Android support and you would get paid for you hard work. Once again thanks for thanks app and on-going development of it |

| Posted: | | | | Hello Guys,
Don't panic, I'm still alive, but I had not too much time for this the previous weeks.
End of next week, there should be a new version with some fixes and a filter on the dvd's genres.
By the way, there aren't so much downloads (on fileserve) : only 59 for the plugin and 96 for the android program. I have no stats on the sky drive, maybe I'll remove this download later.
Thanx for reading. | | | Last edited: by kitarolivier |

This leads me to a question I wanted to ask for a long time already: How do we Olivier-Fans get the news on new releases? Is this thread in the forum the right one for getting news? I hope so, since I may have lost track of where your stuff is stored. Please always post new releases here (if possible) and also include the link(s) for the downloads, please! Well, this could be because not too many people know (yet) about your great App & PlugIn! It took me more than 2 months before I found it, because first I searched in the Android App Market but didn't find anything (except the not-so-acceptable alternatives), so I just sighed and resigned. Then months later I made another attempt and tried to find something in the Internet and... BINGO! It was not so easy to find there also, but finally I am happy I did not give up. So the moral of this could be: keep trying to get you Android-App into the Android Market, since this is the first choice for anyone searching for something. Many say: if it's not in the Android Market, it doesn't exist (or they say: then I don't need it and buy an alternative). I would nearly have said and done the same. So get your App into the Android Market and (as a side effect) make some money with it! I am sure we all will support you in that! Bonne chance, Tom |

| Posted: | | | | I mentioned this in another post - here . They have lots of beta apps on the Marketplace and it would automatically notify users when a new version was available. Olivier wasnt to happy to put it on the marketplace due to the need to keep the PC plug-in up to date at the same time. |

| Posted: | | | | There's a lot of entries in this thread...so forgive me if I missed something... Just wanted to know if there'sa foolproof version for the Android now, which is usable without in depth knowledge of that operating system? I would like to use it on my new Samsung Galaxy S2 smartphone. Thanks! |

But for the lazy ones, it is sufficient to read the first post of this thread, there you find the address of everything you need: http://www.olivier-detry.be/ddvdp/viewforum.php?id=2 There you find: The App for the Android device, the PlugIn for DVD-Profiler AND instructions for both. The only thing that remains unclear to me is: what does this "Verbose"-option (left of "Save log to disk") mean? What does "Verbose" mean and what does the option do? |

| Posted: | | | | Verbose mode was used for testing and catching errors to the log file.
on 1000 dvd's it would generate a monster of a log, we used it for small batchs of dvd's for testing.
No real need to ever use it.
Barend - for the most part this app and plug in are fairly mature, that being said there can be some issues with SOME Phones/Tablets and how they access the internal storage, BUT if the plug in won't copy over you can do it manually with drag and drop.

-Robert One additional question from my side: I have today added 15 DVD's to my DVD-Profiler on the PC (Desktop). Is it right that I then have to again export the FULL DVD-collection? I have tried and marked only the 15 additions in DVD-Profiler, but after the export, all the previous DVD's were gone from the Android device and only the 15 new ones were in the collection. So no way to add only selected records to an existing collection? I mean it's not a big thing, just that it takes a little long to always export the full collection! Thanks, Tom |

| Posted: | | | | Yep, it has to be full exports not just new items.
Maybe down the road there would be a way to appended DB chunks.
I am just happy I have a decent app to see whats in my collection.

-R Thanks for the info. As I said : it's not a big deal, it's far more important to have an App at all! Thanks again for the info! |

Are there any issues to expect with Android 2.3 ? I believe that's the version in my smartphone. Thanks again... |
