Just do some research and you will know about the HD DVD Evangelism Dept. at MS.  The Director of HD DVD Evangelism is Kevin Collins.

Just let me know when you and Battling Butler are ready for a good dose of reality by accepting the challenge put before you.  I understand...to go through with the challenge would be like proving yourself wrong about why you argue for it.

Keep living in that world...free from fact based logic.

Don't you find it bit strange that you keep saying I have no credibility, but you have NEVER proved me wrong on my facts about Blu-ray and HD DVD.  That is not the correct usage of the words by any definitions, yet, you continue to incorrectly use them.  I guess you live by the ruling of manipulation...say a lie enough times and it will become truth.  That's not noble at all.  You seem to be a very hateful person.

You don't provide any factual evidence to oppose what I say about these formats.  You almost always just attack me, personally, instead.  Does that scream logic?  Does that scream good character?  Does that tend to show that you are correct?  Of course, not, but you continue none the less.  You appear to be blinded by hate and the truth will never reach you in that state.

I gave facts to dispute your claim that Mitsubishi held a 2D to 3D Blu-ray demonstration.  Rather than admit you were wrong, you first tried to discredit me by making it seem like I was calling the reporters liars.  When that didn't work, you tried a bit of misdirection and pointed to the title of the article...as if that had anything to do with the original issue.  When I called you on that, you simply ignored it.

Does that scream logic?  Does that scream good character?  Does that tend to show that you are correct?  Of course, not, but you continue none the less.

Dude, you really need help.  The article is still there for all to see.  The title of that article (and many others about the same subject) has 4 key things in all of them...Blu-ray...Mitsubishi...3D...Demonstration (Demo).

No one needs to discredit you.  The stuff you spout sometimes screams "disconnected from reality".  You need to do something...call a hotline...get a doctor...click your heels 3 times...something!  I'm really starting to get worried about you...honestly.  Just tell me your just f'ing with me or something.

The only thing is I can point to solid numbers and solid research to prove my words as fact.  That's why I have issued the challenge for this to be settled once and for all.  That's why no one will accept.  They already know the outcome before they even attempt it.

That's a serious over-simplification of the situation.  It's more like one side and that other guy.  For the most part the one side is trying to be open-minded and educate themselves.  At least we were before you know who know who showed up.  Some lean more to one side or the other and the rest are firmly in the middle.  But everyone is willing to listen to everyone else.

Then there's the other guy.  He's only interested in the truth as presented by Sony.  I've fought him in the past and discovered it's less productive than banging my head against the wall.  At least that produces results, though not necessarily positive results.  And they both end with a headache.  Don't get me wrong.  I admire his enthusiasm, commitment, knowledge (though I don't feel it's well rounded) and his willingness to fight so fiercely for poor little Sony.  If he would learn to be a little more open minded, he'd actually be a fun addition to the conversation.

Anyway, to paint everyone with the same brush is an insult if you ask me.

Facts are facts (not like some would call opinions facts).  There aren't many variations in facts.  Opinions, on the other hand, are widely varied.  I'm saying let's present facts (with at least 2 to 3 links to back that up) only and have a completely neutral 3rd party person decide what stays on the list for each side and what gets tossed (with an explanation).  That's about as fair as it gets.

It's not about Sony.  The BDA is Blu-ray...not Sony by itself.  This is about what format will offer the best platform for the best HD optical experience over the next 10 to 15 years...period.  That is why it is so important to get this right for every movie watcher's sake.  If ACME had that format, I would replace my BDA support with ACME support.  One just has to take off the hate glasses to see that.

First off, I tried something similar a few 10 pages or so ago of asking for people to list pros and cons of both formats and it didn’t go anywhere. So the “challenge” A_S is suggesting I feel will end the same way. There are way too much personal feelings tied to the posts here. I think debating pro choice would be an easier task. But that is neither here nor there.

I have a few points that I feel worth mentioning to fuel…I mean add to this discussion –debate –argue -insult or mere venting arena. The way I learn is to read as much as possible about the topic. I start from literature from the company and move out. Then I try and read as many user reviews as possible. Check Consumer Reports for any information. Then I branch out to friends co-workers and forums. I find all kinds of information. A lot of it is very similar to what we see here. But I feel my experience has taught me to read through the lines or some cases the crap and pull out any pertinent information.
For example:
A few posts ago the topic of Region free discs were mentioned and the pros as to why discs should be released region free. A_S responded with a very good explanation to this. Very simple, region encoding is the way distributors protect release dates across the world. Is this the best way? Unfortunately that is not for us to decide.
HD media is a new concept to a conservative business model. We barely have 1080i tv programming as it is. It has taken over 7 years for what little HD content there is to be broadcasted. It’s like HD tv is something new. I mean is 1080 resolution a huge achievement? Not in the grand scheme of things. So let’s be realistic here. Movie distributors don’t give a damn about the consumers and giving them a better product. The only they are doing it is to sell more product. If they cared about quality you wouldn’t have the broad spectrum of crap standard def DVD’s that exist today. For example: look at Days of Thunder. It is a horrible DVD. It looks like they went to blockbuster and rented the VHS version and brought it back and pushed play and record on their DVDr.  Then you have LotR EE discs. Forget the extra content and added footage. The quality of sound and picture is superb.

So until the studios can create a minimum standard of what is to be considered “HD” media, I think the format war isn’t the only problem.

On to my pros and cons of the formats:
HD-DVD and Blu-ray for the most part of about the same amount of titles available. Regardless of the type of titles they are more or less right around the same number. As far as studio support I think they are split down the middle. Yes some studios have a larger library then the others, but until they start releasing more titles this will still hold true. So what does this mean, it means if you choose to be an early adopter and decide on a single format then the current titles and planned releases will play largely on your decision over tech specs.
The infamous capacity debate, this can’t be argued. Sony has a larger capacity end of story. Whether or not it will impact the release I think is yet to be determined. I think the standardization of codecs is a bigger problem than capacity. Now for the HD-DVD fans, if capacity becomes an issue remember they can always include an extra disc at a nominal fee.

Now on to tech specs; Sony has much more horsepower and potential then HD-DVD.  But the real question is this nothing more than a Mercedes Benz with a Toyota engine. As of right now it is. To continue using my car metaphor HD-DVD is well equipped Camry and for almost all people (average consumer) this will do just fine. The problem with more features is that is simply costs more to make. For every disc that utilizes java based programming ads to the cost of production for the movie. Unless they are going to charge more for those discs, which I find it hard to justify. But Sony may already be aware of this and has planned accordingly. Sony may also justify the cost to have their product stand out over the competitors. Aside from the higher cost of players Sony isn't really charging more for their products. So it can easily be argued that why not go for the more attractive and well equipped Mercedes Benz with a Camry engine, remember if you buy now we can always through in a Mercedes engine later at almost no cost to you.

That’s all for now.

Well, you got part of that right.  It was an article about Mitsubishi demonstrating 3D.  However, they did not demonstrate anything Blu-ray.  The demonstration was to show how well their DLP projection TVs handled 3D images.  They made a claim about a Blu-ray player in the lab, but nothing more.  It really helps if you read more than the headline.  When you do that, you learn what the article actually said.

Wow, just wow.  Are you serious.  Talk about needing to see a doctobeing disconnected from reality.  You are really out there aren't you?  Since you still refuse to admit that you were wrong I will spell it out for you.

In your first post about this article, you said: "This is great news!  Any 2D movie turned into 3D."

I responded with: "Second, the images that everyone was impressed with, as noted in the quote, were shot in 3D.  They were not 2D images turned into 3D."

You then responded with: "If people were impressed by the demo, then it obviously worked.  If it didn't work, no one would have been impressed.  It's that simple.  If Lucas is currently trying to convert his films to 3D, that would be quite time consuming to create a new master.  That would be a 3D film with a lot more "pop" to it.  The Mitsubishi demo gives a 3D pop to any 2D movie, but not as much as a movie shot for 3D.  Do you understand now?"

See what you said there?  You said "the Mitsubishi demo gives a 3D pop to any 2D movie,"

Again, I point out that there was no such demo and quote the article that stated, "All the demo material had been shot in 3D."

You responded with: "The 2D to 3D demonstration for Blu-ray players by Mitsubishi was made up...and the tech reporters decided to make up articles describing the same made up topic?"

Again, I point out that the tech reporters made no such claim and, again, quote the article that stated, "All the demo material had been shot in 3D."

3 times you claimed that there was a 2D to 3D Blu-ray demonstration.  3 times I proved you wrong.  This is where you shift gears and make a different claim.  You say: "What does the title of that article about Mitsubishi say?  It is for what type of player coming out next year?  That's what I thought.  Please stop the silly stuff."

Now, keep in mind that this was the first time you mentioned the title of the article.  Prior to this, as I have just demonstrated, you claimed that there was a 2D to 3D Blu-ray demonstration.  As I have also proven...THAT NEVER HAPPENED.  Had you bothered to read the article...or the several quotes I provided...you would have known this already.

I didn't make any of this up.  It is all here for everyone to see.  Now you can keep digging yourself deeper into a hole or you can admit that you misread the article.  I don't really expect you to do it as you seem to live in your own little world...but one can hope.

I read several articles on the same topic.

So, this turned from my original post basically stating that Mitsubishi is coming out with a Blu-ray player that will convert any 2D image to 3D...to...the demo showed 3D shot content?  How?  Most importantly...why?

Yes, the content shot was 3D (what you ended up arguing about, right).  And, yes, Mitsubishi is working on a Blu-ray player scheduled for a possible early '08 release that's capable of turning any 2D image into 3D (what I was arguing about).

I just want to add some hard numbers and add my car analogy.

As of 8/10/07, Blu-ray has 283 titles and HD DVD has 268 titles.  They are quite close for now.

The major exclusive studio split is 5 to 2 in favor of Blu-ray.  Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Disney, MGM, and Lionsgate...vs...Universal and Paramount.  Some might try to argue that Lionsgate is not a major studio, but they are.  Their official title is a mini major studio.  Lionsgate has over 10,000 titles in their catalog.

IMO, currently, Blu-ray has the Toyota Avalon engine and body, but the big extra options available for the car is on-order.  These parts, that will be better than the Civic, are to be delivered in a few months.  Currently, HD DVD has a Honda Civic engine and body and just about every option available for that model has been added.  Now, you have a growing family of 5 (3 children) you need to haul around for maybe 10 to 15 years and step-child stays with the family every once one a while (she needs to ride as well).

Slightly more complex, I know.

Opinion -- yes, we know you have one.

Logic = less than zero.

Blu-ray and HD DVD are the Viper SRT-10 and Corvette Z06 of the world. Not as unafforadble as a Bugatti or Dino, but neither are they Hondas and Toyotas.

But you knew that, didn't you?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
