A Zealot does not have an open mind and grabs at any bit of information, real or imagined, that supports their position. I wonder who in this thread that applies to? You...without question...and a few others. Anyone that can't bring themselves to accept that HD DVD as a format can fit neatly within the parameters of the Blu-ray format would fit in that category. Wow, you really lost the plot -- more than usual -- on these last few pages. For the record, guys, the "A-man" and 45GB references are to a planned triple layer disc from HD DVD which Ascended_Saiyan kept nagging about until finally Amir (HD DVD/VC-1 insider and, uh, "A-man") visited this board and shot down that 'rumor.' Now he's using info provided to him by someone working for HD DVD (so to speak, the codec will be used for a ton of BD stuff also) against HD DVD... funny. It's not that long ago either so one must assume Bell either mentioned the wrong name or hasn't heard yet. Ascended_Saiyan of course expects him to know within 30 seconds. | | | Erik

By BetaNews Staff, BetaNews August 21, 2007, 10:55 AM Apparently miffed at Paramount's announcement yesterday that it would only offer movies in HD DVD format and not Blu-ray after testing both formats for a year, director Michael Bay says he will not make a second "Transformers" movie - which may or may not be a bad thing depending on your tastes.
"I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!" Bay wrote in a forum posting on his "Shoot for the Edit" Web site. The response highlights the frustration that both directors and consumers are experiencing with competing high-definition formats. *snickers* Michael Bay Tries HD DVD, Likes It: A day after protesting a decision by Paramount to only support HD DVD and threatening not to make a second "Transformers" movie, Michael Bay has apparently had a change of heart after seeing the format in action. He apologized in a forum post Tuesday evening for drinking the Blu-ray "kool aid." "Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard. As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision. So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks! So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!Michael Bay" | | | Erik

| Posted: | | | | BD is continuing its lackluster trend of not including any extras, not even a PCM track this time. And this is from Sony (Columbia), supposedly the flagbearer for Blu-ray... Only Blu makes it possible, right? Quote: Sadly it would appear that Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are barebones, with no extras carried over from the DVD releases whatsoever...

KM I agree. I didn't always agree with him prior to this week, but at least I respected his opinion. What kills me is that we have a VP from Microsoft saying that they didn't pay a cent towards this deal. And he's emailed Bill this information. Yet Bill refuses to update his site to reflect this new information. He's choosing instead to let the incorrect information stand. I guess he's more interested in stirring the pot than posting the news. I don't mind (or understand) this behavior from most people, but Bill is crossing a line in my opinion. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Only Blu makes it possible, right? Well, in all fairness, TrueHD = PCM as long as the 'bits' and such match up. To quote a friend: "PCM is a waste of time. TrueHD is lossless. That means that when you unpack it, it's identical to the original bitstream. Much like zipping/unzipping. So PCM is like sending a 10MB Word doc through email, rather than a 5MB Zip of it. Sorta. "But stripping all extras from the first two, and best, Spidey films is very unfortunate indeed. Ironically enough I just had a brief chat with Sony asking "what gives?" when it comes to their "HD Superbit" releases... Here's the big ol' statement: "We have run outside studies as well as a poll in AVS and the consistent message is that extras are a distant second to sound and picture. To that end, we are starting to use Dolby THD for all the major languages worldwide. Keeping the audio and video quality at the highest levels seems to generate far more positive responses than the lack of SD added value generates. For newer titles where added value can be shot in HD, we are doing so and will include it. SD added value is not out completely, it is just included on a case by case basis."I had comments for most of this, but shan't bore you guys with them. Only, of course sound/picture is first, don't think anyone will disagree with this, it is also obvious that people will mostly talk about the PQ and audio. Extras are more "taken for granted" so to speak, but that doesn't mean people don't want or appreciate them... | | | Erik
