Mindless shills are nauseating. If some people can't deal with FACTS I provide, that makes me a mindless shill? What kind of logic is that? | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

| Posted: | | | | Desperation Move and Cash Grab? Or Bloodier Blu-ray/HD DVD War?Quote: Here's the official announcement being made later today. Note how there's no mention of the money Paramount (I'm told $50 million) and DreamWorks Animation (I'm told $100 million) is receiving for "promotional consideration" from the HD DVD side to continue with what is widely recognized as the losing high-def format. Also note that Steven Spielberg is still fence-sitting (although this fall Sony will release in Blu-ray its catalogue title Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, the first of Spielberg's pictures to do so in either format). Sources are telling me these moves are "really out of desperation" and "a callous cash grab". Hollywood is lopsided in favor of Blu-ray: until now, 7 of the 8 major movie studios (Disney, Fox, Warner, Paramount, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) supported Blu-ray, and 5 of them (Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and MGM) release their movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format. Only Universal was exclusively HD-DVD. The $100 mil is a huge $$$ infusion for the Shrek-dependent public company DreamWorks Animation -- especially curious because, earlier this year, Jeff Katzenberg told a Bank of America conference that he expected "neither" high-def DVD format to win the war "because they're not going to become the next platform." I have more analysis below:... Anything to keep Blu-ray from pulling the plug on HD DVD (looking at you MS)... Isn't this what HD DVD had Blu-ray investigated from (they had no such findings BTW)? Maybe it's time HD DVD is investigated for this one. Blu-ray consistently outsells HD DVD 2:1 on Paramount/Dreamworks titles. It doesn't make business sense to drop your biggest HD money maker (Blu-ray) unless they are paid off...period. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

Oh no they just bought the studios... talking about a monopoly Did you read the BusinessWeek article just above your post? If that were true, the European investigation (on MS and Toshiba request) would have found something...which they didn't. The studios signed up with Blu-ray due to the extra security and flexibility with region encoding, space, and bandwidth. ...And let's not forget install base with the PS3. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles | | | Last edited: by Ascended_Saiyan |

You must be retarded man.... region encoding just sucks... it's just another way to control the consumers, not allowing them to have a choice where to buy their movies It is something that will ALWAYS happen with a format. HD DVD has basically worked out their region encoding for a future date. Region coding helps to keep money going to the studio that is releasing the titles. Just like titles distributed through Universal in the US and not Universal titles throughout the rest of the world. Maybe you didn't understand that before now. Just like you wouldn't want someone else to take credit and paid for your work, other studios don't want that either. Now, you know. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

This is a story that dates back to early 2006, claims were made that RPC would be added to HD DVD early 2007. Still no sign of it. Why would the format start without it and then add it later? The past 10 years of DVD has taught the studios executives with half a brain that disc importing does not affect sales. |
