| Posted: | | | | Quote: Well, that didn't take long. A week after its initial release, '300' has eclipsed all previous releases to become the fastest and highest selling high-def disc yet.
According to Warner Home Video, more than 250,000 copies of the CGI epic have been sold to consumers on Blu-ray and HD DVD.
In a press release issued this morning, the studio boasts that '300' now joins five other Warner titles in the top ten best selling high definition titles -- a list that includes 'The Departed,' 'Superman Returns,' 'Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series,' 'Batman Begins,' and 'Happy Feet.'
The studio was quick to point to its dual-format support as the reason for its success. "This phenomenal response to '300’'is the latest proof that our approach makes the most sense in today’s market and has enabled Warner Home Video to continue to lead the market in high definition sales," said Ron Sanders, President of Warner Home Video.
Warner says it now has a more than 30% market share of high-def disc sales thanks to its dual-format strategy. Source: High-Def Digest And of course the extras are better on the HD DVD... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

Is there a rule against it? The Shameless Plugging Overkill rule. Oh, so helping out fellow blu-ray adopters by posting a link is overkill in the shameless plug department?? Forgive me oh great one, for I have sinned. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

Forgive me oh great one, for I have sinned. "Save the drama for your mama," that was of course sarcasm but even Ascended_Saiyan doesn't link up [store] titles directly, as far as I know. Anyway, carry on, it was just... new. - - - Rumor: 'Shrek the Third' Coming to HD DVD, Blu-ray: "Paramount Home Entertainment recently announced 'Shrek the Third' is headed to DVD on November 13, but failed to announce either an HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc version will accompany it. At the time, we thought nothing of the exclusion as Paramount has yet to announce any Dreamworks Animation title for either HD format. In a bizarre twist this week, the Columbia House DVD Club has added listings for both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of 'Shrek the Third' to their website. Does this mean a release is imminent? We don't necessarily think so, but at the same time, it's hard to imagine why Columbia House would add the listings without having received word from Paramount indicating they'll be available. For now, we're taking the listings with a grain of salt and will not add 'Shrek the Third' on either format to our disc listings until Paramount officially announces it. Secretly we're hoping it turns out to be true as there are a number of other Dreamworks Animation titles we'd love to see in high definition." - - - Antz for me, please! | | | Erik

- Starz (Anchor Bay Studios) announced they will be Blu-ray exclusive
Anchor Bay holds such titles as:
Halloween Evil Dead Re-Animator Hellraiser Night of the Living Dead Masters of Horror Children of the Corn The Incredible Hulk Collection Ghost in the Shell Ninja Scroll Highlander, etc.
The wagons are circling. RSS As posted at CEPro: http://www.cepro.com/article/blockbuster_picks_blu_ray_so_what/K294 07.02.2007 — The decision by Blockbuster to carry only Blu-ray HD titles has had many folks ringing the death knell for HD DVD. But it’s really no biggie, says Paul Erickson, market analyst with IMS Research. And it was a pretty obvious to begin with. “Sony is a supplier of video content to Blockbuster, has a major retail presence in video-related consumer electronics that can potentially be linked with Blockbuster on a promotional basis, and is a significant investor in the online movie download service Movielink, which Blockbuster has actively been trying to acquire,” he says. “It makes much more strategic sense in general for Blockbuster to ally itself with Sony’s Blu-ray Disc format versus Toshiba’s HD DVD.” Who cares anyway, with the retail video rental going down the tubes?“Though this announcement appears to be a PR coup for Blu-ray Disc, it is doubtful that it will actually drive increased hardware penetration,” Erickson asserts in “The Future of High-Definition TV - 2007 Edition.” In any case, only a portion of Blockbuster’s 4,500ish retail outlets in the U.S. are affected. The company says that “consumer demand” will dictate where the Blu-rays are sold, and that the 250 stores that offer both formats, as well as Blockbuster’s online rental service, will continue renting HD DVD titles. Erickson points out that people are still happy with plain ol’ DVD anyway, “and still find both blue formats’ standalone players too expensive for mass adoption, regardless of content availability.” Erickson predicts that HD DVD players will reach the coveted $200 price point by holiday 2007 or early 2008 while maintaining a 40-50% price advantage over the cheapest Blu-ray players. Combined with slow Sony Playstation 3 sales in the U.S., the format war is still very much up on the air. “The format that can achieve the greatest mass-market hardware penetration of its standalone players will ultimately win,” Erickson says. |

| Posted: | | | | Quote: In its first week out of the gate, consumers preferred the Blu-ray edition of '300' nearly twice as much as its HD DVD counterpart.
That's according to numbers which first appeared Wednesday in a USA Today blog post and again today in a new article at Home Media Magazine.
This news follows Warner's announcement earlier this week that the Blu-ray and HD DVD editions of '300' had shattered earlier records to become the fastest and best-selling high-def disc title yet. Warner's press release, which emphasized the studio's dual-format support, did not break out sales numbers (or ratios) for the two formats.
While the 65:35 ratio roughly matches the overall market share for both formats, HD DVD supporters had hoped that a series of supplemental features exclusive to the HD DVD edition of '300' might help the format pull out from under its next-gen rival.
There's been no official response from the HD DVD camp, but sources suggested to High-Def Digest this morning that -- like 'Casino Royale' before it -- '300' struck a particular chord with Blu-ray's PS3-dominated consumer base.
