Instead of being a fun opinion piece on the good & bad aspects of both formats, this thread has degenerated into the bozo trying to force his Blu-Ray agenda into everyone's minds and people trying to stop the bozo from posting his propaganda.

Samsung Unveils the Details on Its Dual Blu-ray/HD DVD Player
Samsung's BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player is due to hit shelves in Q4 of this year, with an MSRP of $1,049.
"Do you go Blu-ray or HD DVD? Perhaps you just want to throw your arms up and take ‘em both? One option you’ll be able to do that with coming soon is the BD-UP5000 Duo HD Player from Samsung."
"After showing up on the radar back in the spring, Samsung today revealed some of the specifics of its first dual-format HD optical disc player."

Here are some other technical goodies:

Quote: Netflix Inc., the largest online DVD rental company, on Monday reported its first-ever quarterly drop in subscriptions and cut forecasts for subscribers, revenue and profit for the year in the face of fierce competition from Blockbuster Inc. ........... Chief Financial Officer Barry McCarthy told analysts on a conference call that Wall Street estimates for fiscal 2008 earnings growth were "excessively optimistic." ........... Netflix has spent the last six months fending off a rising challenge from Blockbuster, which said it will spend $170 million this year to promote its Total Access plan. That allows subscribers to swap DVDs rented online at its stores for free and has become a powerful competitor to Netflix. Are you trying to imply that this is because Blockbuster went Blu-ray exclusive? If so, that is beyond idiotic. I know you will come back with some spin but, I don't see any other reason for you to include this bit of info in an 'HD DVD vs. Blu-ray' thread. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Go to www.samsung.com for more. Not bad. If the price drops another couple hundred dollars, they might hit a small sweet spot for new adopters. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

Call me in 10 years when one of these formats actually has some muscle. Hate to start doing the numbers thing, so I won't. But: " It's interesting to note that even though HD on disc has been available since April of 2006, more than half of the discs were purchased during the last of the four quarters that ended in March. HD on disc is catching on much faster than DVD did." - - - Warner Announces Quartet of Kubrick Classics: "Kubrick fans rejoice! After a year of waiting, Warner Home Video has finally announced the HD releases of a quartet of the director's most revered classics. On October 23, Warner will debut remastered special editions of four Kubrick classics: '2001: A Space Odyssey,' 'A Clockwork Orange,' 'The Shining' and 'Eyes Wide Shut.' The releases are set to debut simultaneously on Blu-ray, HD DVD and standard-def DVD, with each title available separately as a stand-alone release. Currently, the studio has not indicated whether the titles will also be bundled together as a box set collection. Supplemental details for the four titles have also not yet been revealed, but tech specs on the next-gen versions will include 1080p video transfers and remixed Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio tracks on both the Blu-ray and HD DVD editions." | | | Erik

| Posted: | | | | Heheh...those are pretty good numbers. Here are mine. Number of titles on DVD after the format has existed for 1 year, 7000.
How many HD titles again? Do we even want to talk about number of disks sold? Hey, more power to the HD formats, but they're not even a niche of a niche yet. It's all the same to me. Someday, one of these formats will tip the scales and then it'll be a tsunami...or not. Could just be DVD-A/SVCD all over again. Regardless, when something does take over, we'll all just move into that technology.
Fighting about these competing formats now is kind of like deciding who came in 12th in a race, nice to know but the only one who cares is the guy who came in 11th. Nobody else really noticed. |

Move along...nothing to see here. Oh dear... Ok, slowly, try not to get distracted by the kids playing in the backyard, ok? Go now and read the second paragraph of my post. Done? Good. Now you know that I still care to know what this community feels about both formats. I want to know their opinions, that's why I keep reading the thread, hoping someone will actually post an opinion. What I don't want, and I guess most people here feel the same, is someone trying to force his obvious bias into everybody as if it was a gospel. I hate to point out the obvious, but everyone here does have to option to simply ignore his posts and not respond to them. That's what I've been doing. I can't see any good reason to continue to pay any attention to him. It's not as if he's misleading a large group of readers with his opinions. He's uber-opinionated, we all know he is, we're not going to change his mind, so why waste the effort? If you don't mind skipping past his posts, we can actually all still have a good time, share info and talk about the HD market as much as we want. As for the new Samsung player, that looks very, very nice. Too bad the price is too high at this point. Still, maybe a year from now there will be reasonable dual format players available. I know I'd get one. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

That was my mistake. I guess we are even, now, since you didn't see or ignored the fact that all the information from the Nielsen Videoscan numbers were in the post. Quote: Secondly, why in the world should people prove anything to you? Why not? Why would anyone not want to prove themselves? Is there something to hide...like the truth? You mean the kid that was usually right? The one that people like you were mad at...not because he was wrong, but just because you could? Overly emotional people are such a pain. Quote: Again, something that you fail to see. I can't see anyone trying to push his/her HD-DVD opinion on me. On the contrary, what I see is just you and your laughable try at propaganda. You can't see it because you don't want to see it. It was the only reason I STARTED posting about Blu-ray (NO ONE else was as far as I know back in August). There were too many lies being spread about the format, so I stepped up. Sometimes FACTS end up being propaganda. If I state an opinion, I will almost always say "I think" or "IMO". The other stuff are just the FACTS...period. That is what some of these people don't like, because the FACTS are not in HD DVD's favor. That's all to it. Quote: You see, I reckon you failed to read my previous posts in this thread. But if you had, you would find out that I couldn't care less about which format is better. I'm not pro-HD-DVD nor pro-Blu-Ray (yes, as incredible as that may seem to you). If that's true, you will be able to say I am posting FACTS when I'm not responding to garbage posts about me (and not an intelligent defense against the FACTS I provided). Quote: As long as the content remains crap I'm not interested in buying either machine. People's minds are not just limited to Hollywood films, boy. Saying the content is "crap" is your opinion...remember that. I know my mind is FAR from limited to Hollywood films, girl. All you had to do was look at my movie collection to know that, girl. Quote: Why? This is stupid and unnecessary. Why not point the info in the same post you're writing? Uh...because I ALREADY WROTE IT IN THE POST. Can you not see that? Read that post again...read it...good. Do you get it now (probably not)? I didn't even need to post the link AT ALL. I tell you what...try to post a link to a specific page in that magazine beyond page 2. Quote: Seriously you can't be THAT lazy, especially if you want people to take you seriously. Not that you're succeeding at it, though. I don't expect people that are willing to overlook facts because of emotion to take me seriously. It's just not in the cards for them. Quote: Oh dear...
In case you didn't get it (I know it's hard but keep up), most of the people that post in this thread like HD DVD because it's cheaper than Blu-ray. Also, some have made a case about how much PiP means to them. Got it now...good. Moving on... I have made a number of predictions based on facts and opinion. Almost all of them have come to be facts now. I even made a statement (an opinion) about the retailers helping to make the choice between the two formats based on sales. Guess what? Look around at the retailers/studios. Quote: What I don't want, and I guess most people here feel the same, is someone trying to force his obvious bias into everybody as if it was a gospel. What I don't want is people spreading lies about the formats. Fight with the truth or don't fight at all <insert favorite Sony hate comment here>. The only way to be unbiased is to be biased by the FACTS. I still have issued a challenge for someone to find my links/information, on in this thread or the one from the original DVDProfiler, to be false. I will apologize. Until then learn to live with the truth. Quote: So, you may be shocked to read this, but you're just attempting to preach and really, no one likes that. You don't hold the truth, you just have a fanboy bias. You have become a forum troll. A fanboy forum troll. Again, either point out and PROVE my links as false or just stop saying that crap. I guess this is where you say...I don't have to prove anything, right? Quote: And by the way, your analogy makes no sense within this context. Why...because you said so? You were talking about how the thread doesn't have the informative/opinionated posts it once had in your eyes. Basically, talking about how it's trash now. Then, you turn right around and add to that which you criticized. Do you get the analogy now...within that context? Quote: And about your numerous charts, links and numbers, nothing has changed. But you still fail to see that....
NO ONE CARES! Well, the HD DVD biased people and/or those very emotional people that dislike me don't care. How 'bout I just let you know when to format war is pretty much over, ok? That's the last prediction I've made (IMO, next year). See there is an opinion right there for you. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |
