| Posted: | | | | Yeah, it's a bot confusing. Having worked for a major computer company, I have been long aware that prices don't always correlate directly to a markup over costs. There is a lot of value-based and marketing buzz related pricing as well. Cheaper units can actually have the same stuff built in, but not revealed or enabled. For anamorphic support, I just have two 16x9 Elite motorized screens. Luckily I have the space - a nice alcove where a 100" screen neatly fits. Across the front edge of the alcove, I have a separate 120" screen. So, depending on my mood, and the movie aspect ratio, I will use the big screen and just zoom the projector until the 2.35:1 picture fills the full width of the larger screen, and because it is closer, the height is about the same as a 16x9 movie on the 100" screen. Very satisfying. I can lower the screen top in 2 minutes (adjustable chain mount), then raise the lower part of the screen until the black bars are above and below the screen display area. This works pretty well, even though my 6100 has only 18,000:1 contrast. Can't wait to see what 320,000:1 looks like! | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | 320,000:1, to be honest doesn't look like what it sounds. I was expecting a huge contrast but it isn't. However, saying that I can run the projector in the middle of the day in full daylight. I need only to adjust the vertical blinds to a bit of an angle to stop the sunlight shining directly on to the screen. Other then that, daylight viewing is pretty amazing.
The thing that was most noticeable about the thing is the clarity of the picture. |

All DVD & Blu-Ray TV series and movies are stored on the NAS in MKV format. The HTPC in the living room, Mac Server in my bedroom, and my son's PC are connected to the NAS via Samba (Windows Networking) using XBMC. I have XBMC configured to use a shared MySQL database which allows me to move from room to room and be able to continue where I left off. | Posted: | | | | Finally! Amazon recently got the Epson 5020ube available to Prime members. So I had been saving up for it for months, so I got one.
And I have to say that it meets or exceeds my expectations. Absolutely tack sharp picture. Brighter in ECO mode than my old Powerlite 6100 running full tilt. And in Living Room mode, I can watch a movie in ambient daylight.
At night, again in ECO mode, the picture it shows on a 120" screen rivals that of my 47" LG LED. Color setup on both seem virtually identical. I haven't tried projecting a 47" diagonal picture to compare fine detail. Of course the 120" projected image is not quite as sharp as a 47" directly viewed LED, but the difference is remarkably small. Turn off the LED TV, and I soon forget the small difference.
I love the new Epson remote. It even controls the volume when the projector is plugged in the ARC HDMI port of the receiver.
Tried 3D, works great. And there is 2D to 3D synthesis. You have to enable it using the Menu, as the machine is shipped with this feature disabled by default.
I have not yet tried the wireless feature. If I find anything noteworthy, I'll come back and make another post someday. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Knew you would like the Epson. I can tell a bunch of 3D blu-rays soon to be added to your collection, just so you can watch them on the Epson. I noticed Epson Australia have yet another EH-TW9100 (6020 usa model I think) factory second for $2,339.40 ($22 cheaper then the one I got), however I haven't been able to convince myself about using 2 projectors at the same time! Maybe there's a couple of Aussies reading that are looking for a new projector going cheap. If you have an Oppo blu-ray/dvd player, then I would suggest using their split hdmi output feature (video direct to projector, sound to receiver via dual hdmi outs). The video processing of the Oppo seems better before any receiver touches it. |
