| Posted: | | | | Quoting MrBurns: Quote: You guys call yourself native speakers? There is a HUGE difference between ignoring someone and blocking him. If you had wanted to ignore him you easily could have just decided not to read what he had written. By blocking him you prevent people from being able to read him, namely yourself and everyone who is using your computer. Ignoring is not chosing to read it, blocking is censoring (even if it's on a comperatively very small scale). I am sorry, but you have no clue as to what you are talking about. This is MY computer. Because it is MY computer, I have every right to decide what can and can't be displayed on it. In addition to that, I read the forums using MY login and password. Again, because it is MY account, I have every right to decide what posts will or will not be visible to MY account. Now, if I blocked your account from seeing him, that would be censorship. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

| Posted: | | | | The only entity that can practice censorship is the Government, as they control public spaces, which are the only places one has the right to free and unfettered speech. Message Boards maybe publicly viewable, but they are privately run and paid for, so the entity that controls that board has every right to decide what content is viewable and what isn't. So blocking another user on a message board so you don't have to read posts by that person, which you have found objectionable in the past, is not censorship at all, but is the cyber equivalent of ignoring someone. | | | Chris |

Quote: Just curious, does anyone else think some users are WAY too picky on what they vote yes or no on? I think it depends on what you're being picky about. I don't want there to be any factual errors about the film itself, whether it be title, length, credits, etc. I'm not particularly concerned personally about 100% correct formatting of overviews, or rating details, or who 'published' the DVD, etc.
So picky is good for some things, and not so important for others, IMO.
(But, if you don't have accurate information to contribute, it's best to contribute nothing.)
--------------- when i did contribute i thought the information on the back cover of the dvd(runtime) was accurate info. i didn't know alot of times the actual dvd end time was different. I guess i learned something new. So i think i will carry on and contribute(time to list all the sesame street cast members!) |
