if I could take anything from My Movies for DVDP, it would be the color bar that indicates how complete a profile is

That's an interesting idea. But how would one weigh the importance of the different fields? Would every field count the same? And if all fields have some data, would that mean that the profile is "complete"? DVD Profiler's inability to distinguish between no data and missing data is troublesome. A profile for a title that has no subtitles would never be considered complete, for example.

Here's a list: https://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/written-documentation.aspx?Page=Contribution%20Introduction

After a decade or so - I still love it, so not planning on changing.  What has changed for me is the realisation that the DVDP community input has declined significantly over the last couple of years.  More and more when I try to add a profile for a newly purchaseed DVD it simply is not available from the online database.  Not a software thing, but I guess a phenomenon that is also being experienced with other online supported DVD collection databases as users opt for streaming instead of purchasing of DVDs/Bluray.  Progress?!?!

Well, that may be so, but this online database is a community-driven platform.
If a particular movie (whether it is a DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD for that matter) is not part of the database then by all means please submit it yourself.
But based on your profile you didn't add one yourself in those approx 11 years of membership.

Simply put, if all people are just waiting for some new submissions, rather than adding it themselves, the online database will soon be a relic of the past.

My local database has 110 Vudu only profiles because of course I can't contribute them. I personally contribute and update profiles whenever I can.

Yes, that is one problem I can relate to, although it is VHS, Video-CDs, and LaserDiscs (yes, could not part with them  ) and some obscure and semi-amateur releases, in many cases even only available on DVDR or BDR, which I could not submit. Nevertheless, I try to submit as much as I can as well.

I can't argue with that, but I would say - and I'm sure I'm one of many - I purchased DVDP as a product that met my need for a DVD database.  Simple as that.  As much as I was aware of, admired and was grateful to the contributing community, it was never my intention to be a contributer (Too many fingers in too many pies already).  What I would have been happy to do (and still would if the business model changed) - pay significantly more as a service user/non-contributer to subsidise the folk actively creating and contributing profiles.  Academic now unfortunately - I fear DVDP is well down the road to "relic-dom".

I absolutely would pay for an annual membership or update membership. Whatever would get the update process rolling again. My 2 pennies.

Hello Everyone!

Have not had the opportunity to read through all these replies so if I missed something, I apologize.

I love DVD PROFILER but have been inconvenienced by the fact it does not run on Mac.  I have been using a Windows VM (Parallels) for years to use the program but it just seems like Invelos has no interest in moving to Mac nor even updating its current software.

A friend tried migrating the data over to another software called MY MOVIES PRO but that software did a really horrible job of properly migrating all the data.  It was painfully slow as well.  In the end, my friend asked iTunes for a refund on both the OS X and iOS software.

Is there another software for the Mac that is as good as DVD PROFILER and does an effortless and flawless import of the exported data from that software?

Thanks in advance

do you have  cell phone?  the software runs fine on IOS  and android .. this may be the one area you could try ..

my friend has a Mac Pro .. for all his major business...

but he also has an inexpensive Hp laptop with windows 10 installed ..

perhaps with a windows  laptop on the side you could use it for Invelos  and any other software that Apple doesn't support .

Hi Widescreen!

I do have a cell phone and can certainly continue using DVDProfiler on that.

The only thing is, I love the desktop experience of entering movies.

I can continue using Parallels and Windows, but would be doing it only to run DVD Profiler.

From what I have read here, it's indisputable that DVD PROFILER is the best of its kind.

I am using DVDPEDIA on my Mac and it's nearly as good but doesn't break down the titles inside boxed set entries like PROFILER does.

I guess I was just hoping there was another program out there for the Mac that you guys had tried and did an excellent job of importing all of DVD PROFILER's data over.

Profiler has been asking for two decades to use apple software .. to no avail ..

we're lucky so far that Invelos is still updating its current catalogue of titles with our input .. and that  seems to be as much as we can expect ..

Yes, I am aware of this history.  Count me in as someone that contacted Invelos years ago about this.

I also agree with you that we are lucky they are still updating their titles and not charging a subscription for the database and cloud storage.

And, with DVD PROFILER being the best of its kind, I suppose its up to Mac users to have to step through hoops to get it working on their machines which I don't mind knowing how important that software is to my collection of 5k titles.

Has there ever been talk about selling DVD Profiler and/or moving over to a subscription service or alternatively to a policy of paid upgrades?

It is still my number one movie collection program where everything comes together but the iOS and especially android apps are quite limited compared to the very powerful desktop program.

Ken has not weighed in on anything like subscription/paid upgrades.  Various members have from time to time voiced support for these sorts of things.
