There's nothing new on the software side, because physical media is dead, so get used to low bit rates, 3D is dead, so get used to 2D, a cheap PowerDVD is probably a good choice, but it is infected with Sony Cinavia audio corruption, I do not use it, AnyDVD or Fab to circumvent restrictions, VideoLAN is nowadays only porting old technology to new devices, like Apple TV, libbluray (0.9.2.) still a research project, Fab Player without Cinavia but still picky with some blu-ray menus. Watching movies has become more complicated, I am using a case-by-case software / hardware combination. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. I've read PowerDVD now opens Blu-ray ISOs: with full Blu-ray BD-J HDMV menu support? | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

Are they dead? | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

| Posted: | | | | I've used Total Media Theater in the past when I got a free copy with some hardware. Somehow I never adopted it as my standard - I don't remember why. If you are willing to load Virtual Clone Drive, most any player will play a mounted ISO. Of course, that is clunkier and not quite as convenient as directly opening the file. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! VSO Media Player No Blu-ray menu support. No 3D. And you have to circumvent the usability restrictions, of course. Every Media Player can handle the m2ts-container: VLC, MPC, ... that's not the problem. There might be issues with sound format output, though. The problems are: - Blu-ray menus - Blu-ray 3D - Cinavia | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

| Posted: | | | | This post gives you basic instructions on how to get free/open source Blu-ray playback on a PC. Please understand there are limitations Playback [basic or no menu support, BD+ version up to 3, only discs that are in public database] 1. Install VLC from VideoLAN2. Install AACS Updater from LabDV3. Run AACS Updater to get public disc database 4. Run VLC to playback disc Contribute discs to public database needed for playback [more for technically inclined people but not really difficult] 1. Install any DVDFab product 2. Install AACS Updater from LabDV2. Install FindVUK3. Run FindVUK to get disc details from DVDFab 4. Run AACS Updater to contribute disc to public database [by default this is also done by FindVUK] PS: discs contributed to the public database will remain playable for free, now and in the future. The sooner the better, the more the merrier | | | Last edited: by candela |

| Posted: | | | | The VLC option is interesting here, but BluRay players these days are cheap as dirt. Power DVD is ON SALE right now for CDN$ 69.95. Why would I do this when I can buy an actual BluRay player from BstBuy for $60. I've seen cheap Sony BluRay players on sale at Walmart for as low as $35 when they bring in pallet loads of them. Aside from that, I hate Cyberlink as a company and would never buy their products. Their support is among the worst I've ever encounter. If I really decide I want to play BluRay on my computer I'll go out and buy a physical BluRay player and plug it in to the computer. At least I have confidence it will work properly AND have a decent remote. | | | Last edited: by 69samael69 |
