I have Windows XP. Any suggestions for that? Thanks, though, this was what I was looking for, but I am not finding it with XP.

On XP it should be under C:\Documents and Settings\<your user>\Application Data\DVD Profiler

You might need to change the 'username' folder settings to show hidden folders as well, it's a hidden folder in Win 8, can't remember if it was in XP/7 but more than likely.

The path that the moderator helped, but I discovered that my DVD Profiler files are not in that folder, so I gave up. Thanks for all the suggestions, though.

For some reason I was never receiving email notifications of the updates to this forum and then today I received one for the latest post. Anyway, I had deleted a bunch of software from my system and gradually added them back in and I have not had any problems with unusually long initialization times. I did reinstall DVD profiler and I can say that I don't have any additional plugins running now but I did have several in the past. The average startup time is between 12 and 14 seconds. So for now it will remain a mystery but I am glad that someone posted about the debuglog file. That could have definitely come in handy when I was having the original problems. Thanks again for everyone's help!

I found the answer to better DVD Profile times: buy a new computer, not the cheapest way to go, I know, but had no choice.
Collection scans: like entering a new DVD, searching; backups; restores, and start ups, all except backups now takes a few seconds.

A MATTER OF CAUTION:
When I restored my data base backup from my external disc to the new computer's main disc (C), I didn't check the size to see if the whole file was transferred.  As I was busy restoring many things on my new computer, it was a few days before I noticed some, but not all, of cover scans were missing, the last thing the backup saves, about three gigabytes worth. The only thing that seemed to be missing was the cover scans, as several of the profiles I compared with the on the DB were profiles only I had contributed and other profiles.

Why I don't know because have tested moving that file several times and it has since worked.

I am back! My DVDP startup time is back up to over 100 seconds. On my work PC, with the same database it only takes about 15 seconds.  I compared the two debuglog files and
DockControlCount =  1839 on my home pc and DockControlCount = 80 on my  work PC.
Anybody know what the DockControlCount means?  Thanks.

If I had to guess (but only a guess) it is connected in some way to the dockable/movable/floatable items within a program... which in the case of Profiler--unlike most programs--constitutes every window and toolbar.  Every one of them can be repositioned, floated, docked inside of one another in any combination.

How does this help you? Not at all, unfortunately. Asking the question only got my curiosity flowing.
