So far I've just stuck with PowerDVD. |

(I don't have AnyDVDHD) Do you have a HDCP compatibel display (ie DVI connection)? If not then I think you're out of luck. I don't think any software player will work without some additional software that bypasses the digital rights check (such as AnyDVDHD). Quoting tkinnen: Quote: The bigest issue I've had with MPC and also VLC is neither seem to deal with Blu-ray menus correctly. You seem to be right there. I just installed MPC two days ago, and only tried it with one Blu-ray disc. I did get a menu, but it doesn't look like the menu I get on my Oppo, still it did play. Thus my somewhat careful "It seems to work". I've tried a whole bunch of software players. The issue I have with most of them is that they do not provide good information on audio tracks and subtitles. In that regard PowerDVD still seems to be the best, closely followed by WinDVD (which still seems to have problems with Win 8, but I'm sticking with Win 7, so that's not a problem for me). MPC seems to give good info, but I need to pause playback first, otherwise it goes bonkers. There is of course non-player software that will display the needed info, such as DvdpCa, but I really like to have that info available in the player. The "good" players don't come cheap, though. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Another limitation of the cheaper software players is that most of them only can play at 1x speed. Not a problem for regular viewing, but when you're profiling a title you might want to fast forward past the pre-credit sequence, or go to the last chapter and fast forward to the end credits.
Or, if you're like me, you might want to slo-mo thru interesting stunts or effects scenes. Or even single step. Not a requirement for profiling, though... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | I'm using Windows Media Player (WMP) to create or reaudit DVDs along with Profile Contribution Assistant. I view all trailers and other various videos with WMP and VLC. I used to use QuickTime, but they have fallen behind. I am thinking about buying Nero. I don't want cracked software, but I would like to be able to audit Blu-ray 3Ds as well, but that's not a deal breaker.
Bottom line – I don't watch movies on my PC, I just want to audit BRDs, and hopefully BR 3Ds of course along with DVDs.
I have Windows 7 Professional, a 30" Apple HD Monitor. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

And, as you have already mentioned, it doesn't handle digital rights restrictions. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

I figure somewhere in the $100+/- range for the software. For $100 I'd rather buy another cheap BD player and hook it up to a spare screen beside my computer. Most BD software just seems bloated, buggy and overly restricted anyway so not worth my money. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Does anyone know of any cons before I buy? After I retired and after 32 years of computers I kind of took a break from them. Then in 2000, 8 years later, I bought a new computer and got on the got on the internet. Sometimes i wish I never had done that. So, I've been using PowerDVD for many years, revision 4. And have updated from that when I caught a sale. And been using PowerDVD 13 Ultra since it came available. I've haven't had any problems. Like most software there are some things I might do differently. But like the old song I've grown accustom to to your smile. I've grown accustom to it. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | Thanks Srehtims, I'm gonna pull the trigger. The trial version worked great. FYI: It can be bought for 59.95 right now and includes PowerDVD Remote & Power Media Player along with PhotoDirector. | Posted: | | | | I know it's only been a few hours, but so far PowerDVD is great. It plays DVDs, Blu-rays and Blu-ray 3Ds which is exactly what I was looking for so I can audit them all. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | Finally bought a new computer but can't be bothered to install PowerDVD 7 again. Not even sure if it will still work on Windows 10 64-bit and it needed a ton of patches last time anyway...
So let's ditch that and get something else. What are people using these days? Still PowerDVD? I already have AnyDVD HD so I guess I don't need a player that can handle the region codes and copy protection and all that, I just need a good video player that will read blu-ray discs (including the menus if that's possible).
Any suggestions? | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |
