| Posted: | | | | I have all the 'Married With Children'
I really dislike when they release a series and don't include any extras.
Married With Children had too have had some awsome extra stuff they could have included.
Oh well still funny as heck even 20 years later. |

UK show in the Us isn't without its problems. Armchair Thriller I have 2 series of 4 discs, with some episodes merged into one. Amazon UK has 11 discs. It seems nobody has series one except a paid for down load site. Other series have had their episodes merged or altered.
And any body who has a complete set of Doctor Who, you get my vote for the king of TV collectors. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. Yes, all 7 seasons of "Columbo" are out. I purchased the complete set not too long ago. It was a great show . Quoting Srehtims: Quote:
And any body who has a complete set of Doctor Who, you get my vote for the king of TV collectors. Anybody who has a complete set of “Dark Shadows” gets my vote for the king of TV collectors. Not for the volume of sets and discs really but for the price. I’ve been waiting for years for the sets to drop in price but they seem to remain pretty much constant between $47.99 and $53.99 per set. The entire series, all 26 DVD Collections including the 6 “The Beginning” Volumes would cost around $1,500 . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection | | | Last edited: by Bad Father |

| Posted: | | | | Many British TV series would be called mini-series by US audiences. "The Prisoner" was a series. Seventeen episodes. I would consider "Roots" "From the Earth to the Moon" and "The Thorn Birds" as series, short as they were. Many "series" have far fewer hours in them. Think of 13-week unrenewed sitcoms...
If I included only complete completed series (including mini-series) I own 69 sets (counting my two sets of "The Prisoner" "From the Earth to the Moon" and "Zorro" and other such as one each). This does not include series like "Warehouse 13" "Bones" "Castle" "Mad Men" "The Simpsons" "South Park" and others where I own copies of every episode from every season... these are ongoing and incomplete. It also does not include completed series within other series ("Annette" from "The Mickey Mouse Club" or the two seasons of "Davy Crockett" from "Disneyland") or incomplete series within other series where they have yet to release additional seasons (the first seasons of "Spin and Marty" and "The Hardy Boys" from the MMC). My 69 does not include completed TV series where the entire series is unavailable in Region 1 DVDs or Blu-rays ("Have Gun - Will Travel" "Mad About You" "The Lone Ranger" and others), or they've released one or two seasons of three season or longer series ("St. Elsewhere" "Dream On" "Cybill" "Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" "Murphy Brown" "The Lone Ranger" and more). Or series where (except for some that have limited release collectors' editions) all but one or two episodes are not on DVD ("So Little Time" "The Fuccons"). I also did not include TV series where seasons have not been issued, but random episodes collections ("Annie Oakley" "Love That Bob" "One Step Beyond" "Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" "Date with the Angels" "Life with Elizabeth" and others) where I have many, and often all which has been released.
If we add these incomplete series, I have two to three times as many series as my 69 counted in my collection. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I'd have to disagree with you here. A TV Series, in my opinion, is a program intended to last more than one Broadcast season whether it gets picked up for another season or not. If it fails in the ratings and isn't picked up by the studio for another season, then that first and only season is "The Complete TV Series". "Roots" and "From Earth to the Moon" were not intended to last more than one Broadcast season and shouldn't, in my opinion, be classified as a "TV Series" in the classic sense of the definition. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

I stopped collecting "Gunsmoke" and "Rawhide" when the greedy studios starting splitting the seasons into two separate releases to gouge us even more . Reason why you haven't completed Family Ties...? Seasons 6 and 7 haven't been released yet... |

I reckon it can be argued both ways, reason why I clearly indicated in my list which are miniseries and which are not (sometimes, especially with non-US series, the distinction is fairly arbitrary though). Just like I took the - debatable - decision to leave out TV documentary series such as "The Universe", "The World at War" etc.). It also depends what sort of TV culture is dominant in your area. VibroCount is quite right that many British TV series would be called mini-series by US standards. The same goes for continental European series. Also, the commercial TV approach 8ball describes (where a series will be continued or discontinued depending on ratings and generating income from commercials) simply does not apply to classical European public broadcasters, where the length of a series is likely to be predetermined based on available funding and/or the material it is based on. Whether such a series would be granted a sequel series might very well depend on e.g. budget cuts imposed by the government rather than intent. | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

| Posted: | | | | I left out mini-series from my list as I also don't count these as a 'TV series'.
I nearly included Roots, because it had two separate series....but, once again, I considered these as two separate mini-series events.
Having said that, I will say that I agree regarding the British TV shows situation. A series like 'Bonekickers' only ran for one series, and then didn't get a second series. However, at the time it aired there were rumours that it would get a second series depending on the viewing figures. Figures weren't high enough so it didn't get picked up.
On the flip side of that, Downton Abbey was only meant to be a one-off. But it proved so popular that they are bringing it back for a second series. I even remember pre-ordering the DVD when it was simply 'Downton Abbey'....but shortly before it's release it change to 'Downton Abbey: Series 1'. |

However, there are also miniseries such as The Pacific, which take significantly longer than one night to watch. The problem remains where to draw the line. "Quark" was meant to be a series. It died after eight 30-minute episodes. Yet, by all definitions, it was a series... just cancelled quickly. "The Prisoner" was sold to British TV as a twelve episode (of one hour each) series. The network talked them into making seventeen episodes. It was never meant to continue. I consider it a far better series than "Quark" yet, by your definition, it remain a mini-series and does not count. I disagree. "Turn On" was supposed to be a series, but was cancelled after one half hour show. some say the decision to cancel the series came while it was airing on the east coast and that by the time it aired on the west coast, they knew they'd never make a second episode. Yet you might call it a series. Intentions mean little. Do or do not; there is no try. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.
