| | Posted: | | | | OK, seemed to install OK in Safe Mode, able to enter and exit the program at will, even after leaving safe mode -- but only with an empty database. Problems arise as soon as something added to database: Catastrophic failure on exit of program.
Spoke too soon, here. Able to enter and leave program ONCE without error. Subsequent invocations throw error on exit. | | | -R.

Unable to disable Avast without trouble. That's my Anti-Virus program, and I am under almost continuous attack. | | | -R.

Windows Start menu -> Run...
Type: msconfig
In the now opening window click on the tab "Services"
In the lower left corner flag the checkbox "Hide all Microsoft Services" (or equivalent)
Unflag all remaining services
Change to tab "System Start" (or equivalent) and disable all entries
Restart your computer and check if the error still exists.
If not, enable the just disengaged programs one-by-one (with a restart after each change) until the error occurs again. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

| | Posted: | | | | Since the error doesn't occur in safe mode but begins as soon as you use the "normal" environment, I'm afraid that something is seriously messed up in your system. If you are using the Pre-Installed OEM version of Win7, please try the following: Set Windows to another locality (e.g. Great Britain) by using the control panel. Restart Set Windows back to USA Restart This is a desperate attempt and I'm not sure if it will work, but it might. The OEM-versions of HP and Acer are known to cause trouble on some machines, so probably the best solution would be to download the Win7 iso-file from here and make a clean install with it. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

| | Posted: | | | | The locality trick had no effect, but note that I did NOT do a reinstall of DVDpro, just continued using he copy that fails, but works in safe mode.
Reinstall win7, eh? I'll have to take that under advisement, for the nonce.
Perhaps I will let the retailer, Best Buy, Geek Squad, so called, have a go at it.
