I have a Magnavox 32in HDTV that does 720p but simulates 1080p and Blu-ray looks awesome on it.

I have the slightly older and larger brother to this set, the 65H80, running HD DVD and Blu-ray through component at 1080i and it looks great.  Go for it.

The beauty of these projection HDTVs is you don't get a lot of the motion artifacting that are on a lot of LCD HDTVs; they're much more accommodating and that makes a big difference.

Its all about distance from the screen, I have two 720P sets and am presently building a dedicated room which will have a 1080p PJ and 120" screen. But the two 50" sets are really good for BD and can tell the difference easily to upscaled DVD.
