| Posted: | | | | Well, Video Business is a very high profile indistry magazine, but even there, they may be reporting on what they are told by certain VP's, as seems to be the case here.
To be honest, I read the article and didn't even notice it said 10.5 billion. I guess my mind saw the number as being too high and said it must be milllion. Who knows?
Oh well, it's just an article. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

Quote: The adoption rate of Blu-ray Disc drives has outpaced that of standard-definition DVD players almost a decade ago on both sides of the Atlantic because of gamers buying Sony's PlayStation 3 consoles, which include the high-definition disc drives, according to separate estimates. That doesn't say a thing about the adoption of bluray as a movie format. Most PS3 owners use the thing for gaming only. I suspect that a fair portion of the PS3 owners don't even know that you can watch highdef movies on that machine. And believe it or not, a lot of owners of bluray players don't even know that it's backwards compatible with dvd. The funny thing is that a lot people that hate the PS3 as a gaming console like to say people just use the PS3 as a Blu-ray player. And, a lot of people that don't like what the PS3 is doing on the movie side of things say owners are only using is as a gaming console. Too funny! | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

Sounds like a big fish story to me. You know that's most likely a typo. It was stated, in Feb., that the number of discs sold on Blu-ray is outpacing DVD in Western Europe at the same point from launch. Don't try to distract from the overall point that Blu-ray is doing better than DVD at that point in time. Didn't someone, indirectly, ask for the software numbers earlier? *This is where someone tries to side-track others from the numbers by questioning the site.* | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

No, we just had about a 6 month vacation. I guess now that HD DVD gave up, he's back to convince us all to drop DVD as well (not a bad thing actually ) | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Amusing that you suggest that BD will shut down DVD based an Western European numbers. Beta was number one in most of the world as well, andf what happened to it. It died because it could not get enough penetration in the world's largest market at the time.
At this time here are the numbers for the US market SOFTWARE MARKET SHARE - BD VS DVD (6/15/08 - Nielsen/VideoScan): Week End. 6/15 Blu-ray Disc: 7 DVD: 93
BD has a LOOONG way to go yet.

What size would you like? I still want it larger than the rest so it stands out prominently, though. Why not just set it in bold, this should make your point quite clear. Since I as a Western European don't like it to be under average, I just ordered 15 PS3. My local MediaMarkt really loves me now. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! Skip The same thing was said about DVD. Of course, all of a sudden, people don't remember that. This is just history repeating itself with a very small twists here and there. Blu-ray maybe has 7% market share now, but last year it was around 2%. That's what people want you to ignore. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles | | | Last edited: by Ascended_Saiyan |

Back then, people had a problem seeing logic. I was just trying to saving people (including myself) money, time, and anguish at the expense of my time and anguish. This forum was truly Bizarro World at one point. I just wanted to see how much that has changed, if at all. So far, some people seem to have changed while it seems others have not. It's very tolerable at this point. | | | To err is human... ----------- 473 Blu-ray Titles |

The VHS share is below 2%. Most companies don't sell 'em anymore. Still lots of Spanish language VHS on sale at Wal-Mart |
