Most of us welcome a new perspective...which is all this is. If that were truly the case - that its a new perspective - that would be one thing. But its the same old gorp recycled and rehashed every couple of weeks or months because apparently Ken doesn't update the rules fast enough to suit some people. Either that, or the first couple of times the poll didn't end up the way they expected it to, so its one more go around. Its called cognitive dissonance when you keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different answer each time even though the answer is always the same. If you want to keep playing that game, be my guest, but don't blame us for getting tired of the same old same old. | | | John

To paraphrase you, who the hell died and made you the topic master? Oh, please. You and I both know that 98% of the people in this forum are regulars, and that includes the lurkers. We've got groups that support or don't support certain approaches, and the players are always the same people on each of the sides. Once and awhile, we get a newbie. So, if he asks, explain things to him, but we don't need to rehash this stuff every few weeks or months just because some newbie asks a question -- which they probably could've answered on their own anyway if they had the motivation to do a little digging on their own. I'm certainly not trying to stifle legit discussions, but beating a dead horse until it can't even be recognized as a horse is just plain stupid. Your time is worth more than that, so is mine, and so is that of everybody else, including the newbies. I might also remind you that even when these polls and discussions result in a consensus it only lasts until it becomes inconvenient for somebody down the road. Then all of a sudden, we have to go through it all over again and have a big argument about how it was already decided and there was a consensus and so on and so forth. | | | John

| Posted: | | | | Please don't derail this thread. It's NOT a discussion about Contribution Rules. It's a poll on a Feature Request to have two title fields: Cover Title and Screen Title, even only locally. Please note this is the Feature Requests forum, not the Contribution Discussion forum. If you are not interested in this thread as it meant to be, please ignore it. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

Is it REALLY necessary to rehash this stuff over and over again, just because some newbie asks the same question every few months? Instead of the rehash, why not create a FAQ and put the results of all these polls and the ensuing discussions into a file they can find and read? Make it easy on everybody - or is that too much to ask? | | | John

Please don't presume to tell me what I know. This topic was started by a newbie. You are correct, and I already said this twice now, we don't need to rehash this stuff every few weeks or months. We can, however, choose to. If you don't want to participate, don't. It sure seems fairly simple to me. Again, it seems pretty simple. If you don't want to participate, don't. | Posted: | | | | My vote:
1) DVD Title: What's on the cover. 2) Movie Title: What comes in the opening credits. 3) Original Title: The title of the movie from the country were it was made. 4) International English Title: The title under which it is known international.
If we have an italian or japanese movie on a german DVD there is need for at least 1), 3) and 4)
2) is sometimes identical to 1) and sometimes to 3) | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I think we've already got that though maybe by different field names.
That workaround doesn't fit foreign films, though, because you need the 'Original Title' field for... guess what? the Original Title. Quote:
