I'm about to chuck my cuecat... I've got a PS2 cat with a PS2>USB adapter on my XP laptop. How do I make it work in DVDPro? I've tried to scan several barcodes, still nothing.

My reputation with my wife is on the line, after spending the money for this rig. Any help is appreciated.

In order for the CueCat to work in DVD Profiler it must first be declawed.
If it's not, then use Catnip.

I use an unmodified CueCat and DVDProfiler converts the input

as scanned: .C3nZC3nZC3n2DNz6DhP7DxnY.fHmc.C3f0Dxj1DhP6DNf3.
DVDProfiler converts to: 027616799524

It is a USB version though.

The CatNip file was actually a directory of the files from the declaw tutorial.
I think I've convinced the wife to let me buy an actual barcode scanner. But thanks for your help.

Sorry about that. I guess I should have tested the link first. I've uploaded the executable to my server and you can download it here.

CueCats are just a PS2 or USB input device emulating a keyboard - any system that can use such a device should be able to receive the data.  If you don't see -any- output at all when it's connected and scanning, then likely won't work for you.  If you at least get the encrypted mess similar to the example in the first posts, there are possibilities.
The trick is regarding the encryption: unless your application has native translation of the stock CueCat's proprietary mangled output (as Profiler did back in 2.4/2.5), then either you'll have to buy a declawed version, or perform the hardware modification yourself linked above by Bluefox75 that bypasses it's encryption & identification encoding chip.  After that it just outputs the UPC data in clear text.
I've not yet seen a software solution specifically for Mac systems, but one would think it's easily possible since the decoding methods are long well understood.  There are quite a few of results on Sorceforge for cuecat decryption tools, and some are platform independent as java, php and perl.  Possibly of use, at least for testing.

I've been using the CueCat with DVDP for years, but for quite a while now discs from Fox (and MGM since Fox took over their distribution) scan as having extraneous numbers in the barcode.  Is there a setting to prevent that ---but that will still allow the CueCat to scan EANs with longer numbers?

Nope.  Whenever I see those, I just type them by hand.

I just cover the extra numbers temporarily for scanning purposes as the last numbers are separated by a space.

to cite myself from a similar thread:

Is there a break between those UPCs and the extra digits?
If yes, start scanning at the break and swipe to the left, works on the EAN of a magazine I just tried.

There are a bunch of threads regarding scanners, so I just picked one to shout out a "thanks" to all that have given this advice. I finally broke down and got one ... holy smokes - so easy now!

(@Blair I got the recommended USB version. Is was so cheap, you could probably justify getting one instead of suffering any issues with the PS/2 model).
Thanks for your support.

I guess if I bought as many DVDs as many of you here I would have thought about this. My PS/2 CueCat has been in a closet for a decade. Like many, I got it free from Radio Shack a week or two after it was released.

When I found out about the controversial issues, I decided I wasn't using it much anyway and unplugged it. I never even considered trying PS/2 to USB then seeing it it would declaw and run on Windows 7.

I might have to try it just for the heck of it.

I have a USB Cue Cat straight from Radio Shack, that has never been modifed and it works like a charm, and I also have a PS/2 one that works with no problems.
