Thanks for the heads up. I've read about this on other forums too. So far I've seen no reports like this with regards to the standard DVD or HD DVD versions. | Posted: | | | | It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't coming one week after the Blu-ray Harry Potter glitch. Still, this kind of stuff happens in the DVD world and I'm sure it will (if it hasn't already) happen with HD DVDs as well. They just had the bad luck of having it happen on two MAJOR releases in 1 week. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

Terminator 3 Replacement Program Implemented
Confirming our suspicions, Warner Home Video is taking information to send out replacement discs for the recent Blu-ray release of 'Terminator 3'. When the title is played without the In Movie Experience (IME) activated, the title plays at a maximum resolution of 1080i. Obviously, this is well short of the 1080p presentation promised on the cover. | Posted: | | | | Harry Potter Blu-ray Replacement Program Implemented
As a temporary solution, Warner Home Entertainment is issuing single release replacement discs for owners who found an HD DVD version of 'Goblet of Fire' in their Blu-ray Harry Potter box sets. They will supply a boxset version of the disc, with matching artwork, to you once they have been printed. If you were affected by this, please contact WHV Customer Support at 1-800-553-6937. | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

I guess this is more proof that that is true.
BTW, called about T3 and they are not "aware of the replacement program".... LOL | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | Wow, so WB is on a roll. Seriously though, even though I'm not affected in any way that truly sucks. I think that's why something like that MS HD DVD emulator is really a good idea. Hopefully it would prevent errors like this. |

| Posted: | | | | Speaking of which though, it's confirmed that WB will be a speaker at the HD DVD press conference at CES in a couple weeks. Does anyone here have any thoughts on this? I've read in some places it doesn't mean anything, maybe it does and maybe it doesn't. Seems like it would be an odd move if they were dropping HD DVD all together though. I'll say they're going to stay neutral worse case scenario. Any thoughts? |

| Posted: | | | | Quote: We knew sales of Universal's The Bourne Ultimatum and Warner's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix would be closely eyed, and sure enough, the web is ablaze with discussion surrounding initial reports. Reportedly, Potter topped the DVD sales charts for the week ending December 16, 2007, but 'round these parts, it's the high-definition iteration(s) that we're concerned with. Regrettably, it seems that the actual breakdown of HD DVD vs. Blu-ray sales on the latest installment of Potter has yet to be divulged, but we were told that Bourne outsold the wizard and his posse by a margin of "nearly 2-to-1" on HD DVD. Furthermore, Order of the Phoenix managed to slip in at number two on the Blu-ray charts, falling shy of leader Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Hopefully we'll hear a few more specifics on all of this soon enough. -- EngadgetHD | | | Signature banned: Reason out of date... |

| Posted: | | | | If I get the Potter set on HD, then it will be Christmas morning. Anyway, I've heard that there is space to add two more cases in the set. I've not seen it yet myself (opened anyway). And even if the space is there, that doesn't mean WB will supply matching packaging+. But it will be very cool until the next movie comes out. And for me it wasn't about the neat packaging or goodies that came with it. It was that I could get it for the same price as buying the first five individually. Plus it was a good excuse to double dip on the first four. If not for the box, I would have picked up the most recent on HD and probably not bothered with the rest. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Bourne, Harry Potter HD DVDs outpacing Blu-ray titles By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 12/21/2007
DEC. 21 | Fourth-quarter HD DVD releases The Bourne Ultimatum and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix are outpacing similarly high-profile Blu-ray titles, according to Universal Studios Home Entertainment and other industry research sources.
In its first week on sale, starting Dec. 11, the Bourne single-disc HD DVD configuration sold 60,000 units, doubling the 30,000 units Spider-Man 3 sold during its street week in its similar individual Blu-ray SKU. Counting other configurations, including its BD trilogy, Spider-Man 3 reached higher six-day numbers, according to distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
Universal could only provide data on the Bourne single SKU. But the studio expects the pattern to continue when sales information can be gathered in the next several days for its own HD DVD Bourne trilogy set.
Additionally, notes Universal research, Warner Home Video’s HD DVD release of Order of the Phoenix is edging out the titles’ BD version by a 55-to-45 ratio. Order of the Phoenix also streeted Dec. 11. That claim matches information gathered from Amazon.com sales rankings in recent weeks.
These HD DVD success stories do mark a reversal from the overall trend of BD titles topping its rival. Generally, BD sales trump HD DVD sales by a 2-to-1 ratio.
Ken Graffeo, Universal executive VP of marketing and co-president of the North American HD DVD Promotional Group, acknowledges the continued, on average, BD strength over HD DVD software. But he believes it is significant that HD DVD is catching BD in terms of fourth-quarter new releases, as he believes it is a more apple to apples comparison of consumer purchasing behavior.
These new box-office hits are not normally included in the primarily catalog ‘buy one, get one free’ deals. Popular with BD studios, these BOGO deals are enticing because consumers get two titles for 50% off the original price. But there is a question of how long studios can continue to support these promotions as they bring in considerably less money than regualarly-priced titles would.
“I think the fourth quarter is going to be interesting,” said Graffeo. “If you break out the hits, I think we will be even. But the aggressive discounting, with catalog [of buy one, get one free offers], can inflate the numbers.”
Graffeo believes that HD DVD is on an upswing with recent releases because of the surge in people buying HD DVD hardware, which also has been steadily discounted. Toshiba sold 90,000 players in a two-day period in November, thanks to Wal-Mart and Best Buy pricing HD DVD players below $100 for the first time.
“This is a real testament to the momentum we are gaining with the set-top players,” said Graffeo. “We are beginning to realize the attach rate with movie sales.”

| Posted: | | | | Prediction: Blu-ray blows away HD DVD Dec 21, 2007
2008 is the year Sony's Howard Stringer and the Blu-ray Disc will slay HD DVD as effectively as Joseph Turok dispenses with dinosaurs. If you're unfamiliar with that metaphor, you probably don't have a PlayStation 3.
Every PS3 console sold in the U.S. comes equipped with a Blu-ray DVD player. That's an advantage that has put the Sony device in about 2.7 million U.S. homes, compared with fewer than 750,000 for HD DVD. Blu-ray movies also outsell HD DVD movies in Europe by a 3-to-1 margin. This despite HD DVD players costing less than half the price of a PS3/Blu-ray combo unit. True, Paramount, DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation recently joined Universal in exclusively embracing HD DVD. But those decisions stemmed from a $150 million "incentive payment" that smacked of desperation.
To truly understand Blu-ray's dominance, compare titles that are available in both formats. Warner Bros.' "300" is the best-selling next-gen DVD, and Blu-ray boasts an advantage of 66% to 34% over HD DVD in sales of the title.
The final stake in HD DVD's heart could come from Blockbuster, which is testing both formats. "It's still about 70%-30% in favor of Blu-ray at our stores that offer both," a Blockbuster spokeswoman says.
Dual players are expensive, and a recent Forrester Research study suggests that 22% of Americans say they will not buy a next-gen player until one format wins over the other. Couple that with the 25% who say they'll never buy a next-gen player, and the incentives are in place for Hollywood to finally stop confusing the consumer with one too many choices.
