I still haven't decided. There are some great titles available on Blu-ray... but also on HD DVD...

Same, if i cant get all titles on either format, i'll wait for a hybrid player.

Asc...Here's one route you could take in the future to avoid getting hate mail when you log on... Instead of blaming HD DVD, blame the studios for not showcasing the BD version in all its glory. It is ultimately their decision to limit the BD release, not the HD DVD camp.

Or...Simply pretend to be happy that you're getting a 1080p/DTS-Master transfer. You know as well as everyone else here that it's going to look and sound superb.

Compared to what we could have with new technology it ALL looks like crap.

With your Q4 rant, you don't know how that is going to play out and you state it as fact that BD will continue a lead (relatively small all things considered) and that HD has no chance. Let it happen first. Wishful thinking is one thing but you take it a step further than most...

Actually, I blame both.  I blame the HD DVD camp for it because if it didn't exist, at this point, I could enjoy these titles at the highest PQ and SQ available.  And, I blame the neutral studios for not provide those titles at Blu-ray's maximum capabilities.  They are both to blame when it comes to neutral studios titles.  The Blu-ray exclusive studios are providing the best PQ and SQ available from their masters.  That's all I ask from them.

I am happy with the DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio.  I know that will be amazing.  The PQ may be hurt to bring the DTS-HD MA audio to the disc.  I's just hoping it doesn't (even though we won't ever know with only one encode that's tailored for HD DVD).

I just read on highdefdigest and dvdtown that Spielberg titles (in Japan) are coming to High Def... and HD DVD that is

In that list were titles as Caspar, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, Jaws and E.T.

That is great, because you know Steven Spielberg's stance on titles he directs.  He said that those titles can't come out without being on Blu-ray as well.  This could mean the Universal might be going neutral soon!

Amir is no longer managing HD DVD for Microsoft

Quote:
"The answer apparently is yes! Because with this post, I am announcing that I am no longer managing HD DVD development at Microsoft!

Yes, it was a dream job. As was managing the other areas such as VC-1 and technologies we don’t discuss here. But after 10 years of doing the same thing, and nearly 5 years of being involved in this “format war,” I thought I should go and do something new."

"I will be reporting to Robbie Bach who runs the Entertainment and Devices (E&D) division in a strategic position focusing on future “Connected Entertainment” scenarios."

"With this, I will be curtailing my participation here as an official representative of Microsoft with respect to HD DVD. I will continue for a bit more on VC-1 front but that will be it. I will of course, continue to be involved in AVS in areas of personal interest for me. But my official representation of Microsoft is coming to an end."

Do you think this will be a positive for the HD DVD movement or a negative?

HD DVD has to live down to the limits of a 25 GB BD disc as well...Can we agree that both formats limit each other to some degree? I for one am willing to make that concession.

Anyone realize that Target is taking pre-orders online for a HD player that won't be released for another 4-6 weeks? So, they will be carrying BD in-store exclusively but isn't bucking HD completely in terms of player? Of course they never announced that they won't have HD software in-store...Hmm.

It's widely known that Target will be carrying Blu-ray players in store exclusively (with exception to the 360 add on). Would continue to carry HD DVD software in store. Would sell HD DVD players online.

Nothing new here.

I think that looking at the picture that was shown on HighDefDigest it pretty much looks like Spielberg than has choosen for HD DVD.

I heard a rumor Spielberg was paid $150 mil to do this.  I read it on the internet.

That would only make sense if 50GB Blu-ray discs didn't exist.

I guess that's why Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a Blu-ray ONLY (with special interview with Spielberg for Blu-ray) title THIS year.   I also guess that's why Paramount can't release Spielberg property unless it's out on Blu-ray as well.

Of course if a film doesn't require a 50 gig disc then, well...you know where I'm going with this.

I had not read that Target was still carrying HD players online. That's why i posed the question...I was just looking for clarification and it wasn't intended to be news...

Well.... here's what Speilberg's people are saying... take this as rumor if you wish...

Spielberg Spokesperson: Universal Japan HD DVD Announcement was "A Mistake"

Marv Levy, spokesperson for Steven Spielberg, was kind enough to speak with us today regarding the recent surprise announcement from Universal Home Video Japan that Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park and Back to the Future would be released on HD DVD.

According to Mr. Levy, "There are no plans to release these titles on HD DVD. It was a mistake and someone inadvertently put those titles into a presentation"

Mr. Levy also mentioned that Universal will be making a public statement regarding this mistake in the coming days.

Blu-ray.com would like to thank Mr. Levy for again speaking with us regarding Mr. Speilberg's films and their future in the world of high definition media.

Superbad Gets Super Extras

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the extras which will be included with the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Superbad', due on store shelves December 4th. Sony has confirmed that this will be a two disc release, which gives us the sneaking suspicion that all the extras will be in stunning 1080p high definition.

  • Pineapple Express: Exclusive First Look

  • Deleted and Extended Scenes

  • Gag Reel

  • Line-O-Rama

  • Cop Car Confessions – A Ride Along with Clark County's Finest

  • Making-of Superbad

  • Original Table Read 2002 – Seth Rogen reads for the part of “Seth”

  • Dancing Title Sequence

  • Vag-tastic Voyage

  • Cast Audition Footage

  • Press Junket Meltdown

  • The Music of Superbad

  • "Everybody Hates Michael Cera" – The Unfortunate True Story

  • On-Set Diaries

  • "Snakes on Jonah" Featurette

  • Michael's Voicemails from Jonah

  • TV Safe - Watch Jonah Hill try to record alternate "safe" lines appropriate for television Table Reads

  • Optional audio commentaries by Judd Apatow, Seth Rogren, Greg Mottola, Evan Goldberg, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse

  • And exclusive to the Blu-ray release will be the "Superbad Supermeter" which will keep tally of all the lewd and crude lingo in the film.
