Agreed. Thanks to Neuer and Lahm Ghana didn't score. The rest of the German defense was extremely weak yesterday, especially Mertesacker, who played as if he had a terrible toothache.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Actually, it was just Mertesacker who played horrible. Almost every lost ball was his fault, he was never close enough to his opponent and didn't have any offensive drive at all. Lahm and Friedrich played great and Boateng played alright. Same mixed bag in the midfield, Özil played fantastic but Schweinsteiger had one of his worst games in months.

An English friend texted me the following message:

"This World Cup has turned out like WW2! The French surrendered early, the USA arrive last minute and we are left to fight the f*cking Germans!”

Italy finishes last in thier group. Very bad. I wanted Italy to go forward. What does everyone think of cheating Slovakia at the end with the of the fake injuries to waste time.

While you can call that cheating it's not as if other teams don't do this as well, especially Italy is a master in faking injuries. How's the saying, what comes around goes around?

In the end, while of course it seems more interesting to see Italy go though, they never deserved it. They didn't play well in any of the matches they played and they didn't create chances until the last minutes.

Other way around, actually: what goes around comes around. And very applicable to this case, I might add!

Indeed! I'm glad that Italy is out.

Japan did great today, incredible free kicks from Honda and Endo!  And since my other two favourites (Netherlands and Germany) made it to the round of 16 as well, it's all good!

Usually that's the job of the Italians, good to see that someone returned this to them.

But it's unfair of course. A good "playing down the clock" was shown by England.

Paul

you are right on that every team does the injuring faking thing. i wish they just would not do it at the end of the game and just close it out.

Yes we know, even Heskey scored!

Talking about ooooooold games:
Our revenge for Wembley '66 in 1972 (England: 1, Germany: 3)

This will be a hard match for both of our teams and no matter who wins: if they don't improve immensely Argentina will finish them off.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
