Tried something. Tell me if you like... Big improvement. You could experiment with some other background colors. Blue font colors are often difficult. You could try R:255 G:255 B:192 (#ffffc0) as a replacement for the grey. It is very light yellow. If I'm not mistaken, blue & yellow are complementary colors. Thank you for all the efforts. Alas, it's still cut on DVD in the UK... The Blue-Underground release is R0 and uncut. It's available through traders over at Amazon UK for a little over 9£ including shipping.
