| Posted: | | | | DVD Profiler 2.x used to ask to refresh the online profile list before adding a DVD.
DVD Profiler 3.x forces this update. This is a problem if the computer is not connected to the Internet. Users may have other reasons to not want to do this.
Please add a prompt or option that asks the user if they want to update the online profile list rather than forcing it or starting it automatically. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." | | | Last edited: by Grendell |

| Posted: | | | | If there is no Internet connection DVDProfiler continues the "Add DVD..."-dialogue with the locally existing online-list. Even if there is none this only means that you have to enter the new profile manually. Quote: Users may have other reasons to not want to do this. ??? Which reason might this be? Whatever reason I want. I am the user, I paid for the product, it is my computer, and I, and only I, should be able to decide when and if the program can access the Internet and do an update. This is a feature request forum and thread. It is impolite and inappropriate to "take shots" as it were to users' requests here. If you don't want or care for a particular user's feature request, then kindly ignore it. I wouldn't go into one of your feature request threads and post, "Why would anyone want that?" Thanks. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

If I wouldn't want a program to access the Internet I surely wouldn't buy one with an online database. I use intensively this program, but use quite nothing from the online. So I fully understand the question. People often forget that local features are far more important than those using online. | | | Images from movies |

Dont know about DVDP, but most programs give excessive amount of error messages and nag screens when they cant find an internet connection. Some programs just downright crash. If this happens every single time, i can definately understand the need to switch to "offline use only". |

Thanks. Sorry, really no offense meant. I just couldn't think of any reason why I wouldn't want DVDProfiler to access the Internet, except for not having an Internet access, that's why I asked. But as an addition to your request: In this case it would be very useful to disable the automatic program update search too. At the moment DVDProfiler checks at every startup whether there is a new version available and asks you to do an update. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! | Posted: | | | | Perhaps not the best idea, but just an idea to have an "offline mode" now:
Make a change in your firewall, so that the internet acces for DVDP is blocked by it.
I think the local work (of course without the online database) should still work. |

I can think of at least one reason. You're at work and your employer doesn't allow private net traffic. But they allow using computer program for your private hobby on work hours (maybe even on company owned PC) or in company premises? |

Perhaps his second feature request from yesterday helps us guessing. Serious: I don't think we should guess other reasons than he explained. I think without the online database DVDP is not complete, but it could also be that he uses the prog for collecting other things and the online acces isn't needed. Like shown in this thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=424772Or perhaps he has to pay for the amount of net traffic, then it would be really good to have an offline mode!!!! |

I think without the online database DVDP is not complete. With local database, you can complete each field, specially headshots, images galleries, custom genres. Online database cannot manage those fields. You can very easily live without the online... | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I probably would not use this product if it did not have the online database.
To me, one of the beauties of DVDP is that I can input one piece of information (UPC) and instantly have all of the data for that DVD in my local database instantly.
I do not have the time or the inclination to manually build a profile for every DVD that I buy from scratch.
In addition, many users do not have scanners to enter cover images and others do not have DVD/Blu ray drives to enter disc IDs. | | | Hal |

You can very easily live without the online... Living without of course could work, but than you can also make an Excel sheet. No, serious, hal9g, wrote a little bit more detailed what I was thinking with "It would be not complete". |

| Posted: | | | | This is a totally reasonable request IMO as well. Many is the time I load the program and will have no need to utilize any online aspect of the program. Or oftentimes, the wireless connection is extremely poor at home at the time and if I can postpone potentially large downloads, all the better.
Perhaps even a startup command line switch to operate fully in an offline mode - which would grey out any features that require an active internet connection rather than having to wait until a timeout occurs. |
