Okay, been thinking about it quite some time, so here it goes:

Say you have the short version of Das Boot, you have to enter all information about that title. But when you later buy the longer version you again have to add all information. Now some of that information is completely different for those 2 movies, but some info is the same, say the actors / crew. Isn't it possible to link different dvd's to one movie? Say we make one big database with all movies in it and also all actors and crew. Now when someone adds a dvd to dvd-profiler they don't have to add all actors / crews, but can get that info from an existing database, this will be the case for all diferent localities, so when living in the USA you get the same actors / crew compared to when you live in the Netherlands. I think that way the database will be smaller, but the main reason is: we get a much better list of actors / crews. Less errors and if someone adds an actor to a movie, it will apear in all dvd's linked to that movie. Of course we'll have to help to get that database correct, but then again we have all members to watch over it.

Adding a standard photo for the actor but also that one for this specific movie (per role). See my picture on following url: http://www.upload2world.com/pic95/upload2world_4717c.png

Sometimes you have an empty box that has a UPC / EAN number in which there are 3 dvd's in 3 different cases (with 3 different UPC's / EAN's). If that UPC number of the empty box is entered, would it be possible that DVD Profiler adds those 3 grandchildren also?

When going through the list with owned discs, please use Ctrl-Home / Cntrl-End / Home / End to go quickly through the list.

Ability to get quotes before and behind the name to search exclusively on that whole text, so say: "Robert De Niro".

When using: (last name, first name): it will automatically search with that specific method of writing for pictures on google so it will look for: Niro, Robert De. Please make it possible to automatically switch that to use the search-string "first name last name".

When you are on the first grandchildren of a parent you can close that parent by choosing the cursor to the left, please make that function also available for not only the dvd at the top, but also for other discs in that box.

Adding quotes: "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Adding info about actor (year month day of birth, where born, if died the date and where and where burried)

Getting help with F1 on the function when pressing F1, for instance when choosing the case when you hit F1 you get a list with pictures / text to see which case you have.

Adding sound / music /theme from the movie

Some questions, don't know if it's possible to do this now with the current versions, it was not possible in older versions.

Can DVD Profiler take a look at the size of the disc and tell whether it's dual-sided or not when entering the disc?

Could it also see how long the movie is? Just by looking at the VOB's or something like that?

Holy crap, 8ball.  Sheesh.

Okay, some of his suggestion may have been a bit out there, but tearing apart someone's very first post sentence by sentence like that... man.  I thought Skip was the terror of newbies, but I guess you're bucking for the top spot.

Mutiple Cast & Cew photos is already incorporated into the new Beta.

Except, it is one photo per profile, which isn't what he was suggesting.  Did you look at his screenshot?  He's suggesting have a standard headshot of the actor and then a separate possible photo of the "character".  Personally I wouldn't bother with using the feature myself, but I can see the reason others might.  Mainly for animated movies as shown in his screenshot.

Once again, this is not new. This has been requested dozens of times.

So?  Someone else mentioning it again is bad?

Why??? Is your mouse broken? Maybe for a laptop???

There's tons of other keyboard shortcuts for other things.  Does the suggestion of adding a few more bother you that much?  Especially to the point of adding ??? to everything?

Why??? Google no longer uses "quotes" around text for searching. It already assumes that what you typed is exactly what you want.

You should notify Google of their new policy so they can implement it because I still need to type " " around phrases to search for them.

Once again, is your mouse broke? You can't move the arrow a fraction of an inch up the screen to collapse the set? BTW, it goes Parent>Child>Grandchild

Again, what do you have against keyboard shortcuts?  It makes sense that when you press the left arrow, it should collapse the tree.  This only happens when the parent is selected, not when any of the children are selected.

Huh??? . Is DVD Profiler a new Artificial Intelligence that is automatically able to determine for itself what constitutes a quote and add the " "s? Or, do we now have to compile a separate database of movie quotes for DVD Profiler to pull from as it automatically scans the overview for quotes?

Why not?  I wouldn't bother with this feature myself, but the beta just added a new Gallery feature to add movie posters and screen captures.  I won't bother using that feature either because I don't really care about movie posters and such but I'm not going to knock all the users who will.  Why not add something where you could add your favorite movie quotes?  Sure, this could be done through a custom HTML window or through some plug-in, but it's always easier when it's a built in window or feature.  Again, he's just making a suggestion, not kicking your dog.

Same answer as above.

I thought both of these were interesting suggestions.  Again, why not?  It already scans the disc for the DiscID's.  Why not scan the disc size and automatically check the dual-sided box or not?  It can't be that difficult.  Or maybe it is.  I don't know, it's just a suggestion.  It's for Ken to decide.

The movie length may be a stretch considering there's typically multiple VOBs and it would be difficult in figuring out which are the movie, which are featurettes, and especially for TV series discs which would have multiple episodes.

I'm not very tech savy, but how would Profiler know if a disc was double sided?  I can understand how it could tell whether it is single density or double density, but how would it know there's two sides on a disc?

This is nothing new. Having a "canned" cast & crew list for the same title has been discussed multiple times and shot down. What do you do for animated films where the voice cast list is for a specific region/locality? And what about unrated or Director's Cuts where the cast list may vary due to edited scenes?

Had searched to see it that has been discussed before, didn't find it, probably searched with wrong words. I can see that Animated and Diretor's Cuts or Unrated versions can have different lists, but that isn't because they are different movies, they have some extra's. Isn't is possible to make addendums with that information? 95% (or more) of a normal movie is the same as the Director's Cut, why not have a little addendum in the actors list that shows it for the Director's Cut. I surely would prefer that to have to enter it again and again.

If you want to track trivia use IMDb or some other program. The BY has a specific purpose in DVD Profiler and that's to differentiate between two cast/crew members with the same name...period. If you want to track trivia use the notes field.

Point taken. But sometimes you see people enter the actors with birthyear and with the next update from Invelos it disappears again. So people are struggling with the way of choosing the right person, why not have it's birthyear visible always to get rid off this annoyance or at the least make it sometimes easier to pick the right person?

If by adding sound/music/theme you mean to be able to hear sounds, music or the theme from the film, this can already be accomplished using HTML windows to link to specific files on your system.

Thanks, will try this. Great to hear it's implemented already!!!

Do you also know a website / url to get these sounds / music / themes?

We had that discussion here: a way of estimating with over 99% accuracy whether DL or SL with a program, or 100% by looking at the disc.

Single or dual-sided is a synthesized field. You can't set that value by editing the profile. But the XML that outputs DualSided (True / False) gets synthesized based on whether the Label Side A and Label Side B are both non-blank. Maybe also DiscID, but I didn't check that one.

There is another recent post somewhere - I think in the Beta thread that breaks out all the designations, inccluding the HD equivalents. Using the same method, official disk sizes, one could write a program that would detect them all, based on the size (number of bytes) of the disc.
Thanks for your support.

You can use DVD Decrypter or DVDinfopro (also known as Nero Info Tool).

Btw, I think that the functionality of those programs should be implemented in Profiler as well. Wouldn't it be nice to get all the info (disc id, no. of layers, regions) with one button?

My appologies fschuit. It wasn't your post. For the past week I've been struggling with Tinitus and it's really getting to me. I find it difficult to concentrate, sleep and it's making me short tempered. If you don't know what Tinitus is or have never dealt with it, it's a constant ringing in the ears and, believe me, it's VERY distracting and annoying. I've been to my doctor and he had some x-rays taken but didn't see anything obvious. I have an appointment in two weeks to see a specialist and hopefully he'll be able to determine the cause. Until then, it's something I'll just have to live with. Perhaps I shouldn't post for awhile . Once again, I appologize for my post.
