It doesn't seem like Ken is taking any of these Feature Requests into consideration.
Many of them we have been requesting for years. Does he even check these forums?

Doombear:

Ken operates on HIS timeline, not yours. Just because you don't get it right NOW, doesn't mean you will never see it. This instant gratification society is insane. It took us five years to get Crew data and another 3 years to get the new Cast/Crew alias system. If it has to be done on your time frame, i suggest you start coding. Otherwise be patient. good grief.

Good grief! Why do you need to get involved in every thread? Are you a moderator here?
I'm sure many people are as frustrated as I am. I know you're not sweating.
I'm not talking about NOW, I'm talking about asking for things for years and not getting them.

My guess (speaking as a developer who receaves feature requests myself) is that Ken will read these requests. He will take it into consideration, but no it is not a "must do" list (which is why I guess he choose not to comment on it - it's so annoying discussing with users who can't understand why you say "that is a great idea, I'll not do it".

Basically it's a question of cost/benefit. Neither the cost or the benefit has anything to do with how long a feature has been requested.

Sure it can change over time based on other changes in the program, but something that has a low cost/benefit ratio now most likely also have it in a couple of years time.

The feature request is the way to tell the developper our idea, some are good and some are bad. Sure he have the last word and it's just normal, but sometimes some user could arrive with a good simple idea. Just to give you an example with another product that I own.

the last version of "Out of the park baseball" was a complete disaster. So a lot of request appear on the game forum and a lot was use in the current version (2007). The result the game is "almost" perfect this year. Currently the developper take the sugestion for the next version. Does it means that all the thing ask by the user will be in the next version ? Evidently not, some of these sugestion could create some bug or are not so great to begin with.

But, this is the way that we have to interact with the developper and to tell him that we care for the future of his product.

OK it's enough when I wrote too much it became too evident that I'm not an english speaker

P.S : I don't say that the current version of DVD profiler is a disater

As I look back over the various versions that have been put out over the past 6 years that I've been a member, it's clear that Ken both listens to our suggestions and adds his own.  To implement 50% of what's posted here would take an enormous development team.  It just unrealistic to expect that most of the ideas here (even most of the good ones), will ever make it in to the program.

Rather than worry about what's not being added, you should pay attention to what is being added.  The situation doesn't look nearly so dire that way.

First off Doombear, I don't post in every thread, in fact I actually post in very few. I have suggested an answer for you if you are frustrated. I get just as frustrated by users such as yourself failing to recognize that Ken does not have a development team, he IS the team. Just look at yourself and other users, if Ken tries to go away for a few days people start crying about and predicting the end of Profiler. If they don't get a new release when THEY think it should come out, they start with the moaning and gnashing of teeth. Good lord, man, get over it. We have a great program that most of us here will acknowledge as the best there is at any given point in time. This doesn't mean it is perfect, it likely never will be.

I agree.. looking at all the past versions... There is a lot that was suggested and added and a lot that was suggested and not added. In my opinion Ken is doing an awesome job at giving us what we want to the best of his ability.

Well Ken's just added one of the most requested features recently, whereby you select which birth years in the new profile you want to contribute, about 2 weeks ago... seems like he's still working hard to me!

Skip is right be happy with the program for now. Ken may have another job or something else keeping him from working on this full time.

Also programing I am told takes a long time and even longer when you are doing it yourself or with just one or 2 other people.

This only works for NEW birth years. But you are right: It may not always be visible, but he's not doing nothing.

I realize any code changes take a lot of time and testing before implementation; it's a right pain.
These things don't magically appear overnight.

Requests on this here forum get buried, and it is pointless to keep bumping them or re-posting.
We had a knowlegebase of collected feature requests:
http://www.dougweb.org/dvdpro/kb/index.php?title=Collected_Feature_Requests
Perhaps we could enter our wishes there and make it a sticky thread at the top of this forum?

Overall, still a great program - keep up the good work Ken and company!

I wonder if Gerri is a programmer?

If not, does she know how to think like one and thus can be taught to be one?
