The PC DVD Profiler name and ip address are at the bottom of its window. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 2077 |

You can enter either your PC DVD Profiler name or ip address when setting up your iPad. If one doesn't work, try the other. If you still have problems make sure your DVD Profile iOS app settings is set to Local. Also make sure your PC local network is set to PRIVATE. See the link below on how to do that.

In DVD Profiler on your PC go to File:Synchronize with DVD Profiler Mobile and follow the directions. Then on your iOS device go to Databases on the bottom right and then hit + on the top right and follow the directions. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 2077 |

Purchase and download DVD Profiler from this site. Then log in to your account on it. You will then need to connect to your iOS device in order to sync your database. This is done over wi-fi. Check out the other items in this forum on tips. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 2077 |

A big positive with MyMovies is their customer service. I've sent them numerous e-mails and always get a prompt informative response. They worked with me improving their DVD Profiler XML import function. I'm sticking with DVD Profiler as long as its iOS app remains useable, but I'm planning to move to another app when it eventually dies. Right now MyMovies seems like the best choice, but I'm still evaluating other iOS apps. | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

Once again, good to hear, but I haven't seen anything yet in iOS 18 that would make me switch just yet, especially since Apple provided iOS 17.7 with security upgrades. Baring security upgrades, I prefer to wait until Apple has worked out things a bit with new releases. They are planning multiple iOS 18 upgrades over the next few months, as they push out AI features. If I see something new that's interesting, I'll take the plunge, but hopefully only after others here have checked it out. | Posted: Topic Replies: 22, Topic Views: 12637 |

You can import your exported DVD Profiler XML file to MyMovies via their web site. If you have problems, their customer support has been very helpful. Unfortunately you will need the Windows version of DVD Profiler to generate the XML file. If you have a PC then you need to download the Windows version. If you have an older Intel Mac you need to install Windows 10 with Bootcamp and then download the Windows version. If you have neither then you are screwed unless you have a friend with a PC. If you have a newer Apple silicon Mac, I think your best option would be Parallels, but that is pretty pricey. It would be nice if Invelos would offer to export your data for a fee, but that doesn't seem likely. | Posted: Topic Replies: 11, Topic Views: 2077 |

Lowpro: While I can understand your issues with My Movies' interface and functions, as you say each to his own, I think your aversion to online syncing is overblown unless their server has a history of frequent outages, as has Invelos. If you are worried about them going belly up, I believe you can export your My Movies database as XML or CSV, which should allow you to move to yet another app. Let's all face it, while we all love DVD Profiler, we are living on borrowed time, especially us iOS users. As the Boy Scouts used to say, "Be Prepared". Fortunately, for iOS users, we have been granted a stay of execution with iOS 17.7 and 18. So now is a good time to plan for the future. | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

iOS 17.7 seems to work the same as previous versions. I think I'll stick with it for now. While others have reported iOS 18 is working OK as well, I see no pressing need to upgrade to it just yet. | Posted: Topic Replies: 22, Topic Views: 12637 |

Good to hear. Out of caution, I just updated to iOS 17.7 and that seems to work OK. I'll now go ahead with an iOS 18 update but will wait for 18.1 as suggested. I hope we are good for another year, but I'm worried that when Apple adds AI to iOS 18, things may go south. | Posted: Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 994 |

I think people are sensitized to frequent long server outages due to Invelos' poor record in this area. I would expect this to be a rare and transient event for other servers nowadays.
Nice to hear good news for iOS 18, but I since I use my iPad as my primary input and editing device, I will remain skeptical until I try it out. | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

Does Lowpro's comment "My Movies v5 and higher went to a mandatory sync model" mean they store your database online instead of locally? If so, what's wrong with that? | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

This discussion is probably going to be very important for iOS users, since Apple just released iOS 18. I haven't tried it yet. | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

Since they put in the new server, iOS devices can't properly upload items to the online database. Sadly, I don't expect this to change. | Posted: Topic Replies: 10, Topic Views: 2549 |

Yes. My charts are blank as well. I didn't notice it before since I hardly ever use charts. The same thing happens on my iPhone running iOS 12, so it is not an iOS 17 issue. It must be a server issue. I can live with it. | Posted: Topic Replies: 10, Topic Views: 2549 |

I have the same issue on my iPad, but if you search by UPC 883929773589, you will find it. | Posted: Topic Replies: 10, Topic Views: 2549 |

I generally agree and have put my evaluation efforts on the back burner for now. However, that could all change once iOS 18 rolls out. If things go south, I'm planning to move to MyMovies, since I've been impressed with their online customer support. | Posted: Topic Replies: 92, Topic Views: 14635 |

If you have an Intel Mac you can run Windows on it using Bootcamp. You can download a limited version of Windows 10 for free from MS. https://support.apple.com/guide/bootcamp-assistant/install-windows-newer-mac-boot-camp-bcmp173b3bf2/6.1/mac/14.0 | Posted: Topic Replies: 4, Topic Views: 8076 |

That's been the case for the iOS app ever since they installed their new server months ago. I doubt it will ever be fixed. Your only choice is to use the Windows app or move to another iOS app, such as MyMovies. | Posted: Topic Replies: 2, Topic Views: 1069 |

While it works great when BOTH PCs are open and running DVDProfiler, if I close the master PC app, the slave PC app loses connection to the database. So I guess the slave PC is not actually syncing its local database, as with an iPad, but rather opening the master PC's database remotely. The master PC is thus just acting as a server. This would therefore not be a useable option to transfer data from master to slave prior to reformatting the master PC. While an interesting feature if one has multiple PCs in running one's house, I guess I'll have to rely on syncing via the online database or a transferred master backup file prior to reformatting my master PC. | Posted: Topic Replies: 9, Topic Views: 2733 |

I did what you said on my slave PC, sharing my master PC database with it as I had done with my iPad. It seems to work well. Syncs between the two PCs automatically. This is a bit different than syncing my iPad to my PC, which requires an extra step to initiate the sync. I'll have to play with it a bit, moving movies back and forth to feel confident enough to use it instead of syncing via the online database. It always amazes me how well designed and fully functional this app is. I'll be sad if I am forced to switch to another app to maintain iOS compatibility. Once again, thanks. | Posted: Topic Replies: 9, Topic Views: 2733 |

Mediadogg said: The second PC can be loaded from an exported database from the master, or an uploaded online database, or synced to the master using the remote connection
While I understand the first two, please explain your "remote connection" comment. I know how to do that with my iPad but how do I do that with another PC? | Posted: Topic Replies: 9, Topic Views: 2733 |
